5 Reasons Why Being a Sensitive Person Is Your Superpower

Sensitivity is no longer a liability.

I am a highly sensitive person. And I never liked bragging about it.

Being sensitive seemed like a weakness, a trait of character I ended up with, and I had to keep it to myself.

I wanted to come off as confident, tough and having it all together. Those were the traits I would love to wear proudly on my sleeve.

From a young age, we are instructed to ‘toughen up’ and not cry in public but rather repress our feelings and pretend to be somebody else.

For a long time, I have been living in denial of my sensitivity.

With daily meditations I learnt how to tap into my emotions and use my sensitivity to increase joy in my life.

Today, I embrace my sensitive side. Better yet. I celebrate it. I have learnt to channel it into a positive force of my creativity and productivity.

If you, like me, considered sensitivity a disgrace, here are the reasons sensitivity is actually your superpower.

You create successful relationships.

Sensitive people are masters at connecting with others due to their empathy and emotional awareness. Being sensitive, you are likely to detect people’s feelings and emotional cues.

You plant seeds of respect and understanding only to find them blossoming into long-term relationships.

When people talk, you listen.

When people are in pain, you see them.

When people ask for advice, you put yourself in their shoes and offer guidance.

People are drawn to those who can listen and relate to what they are going through. It is the strength of sensitive people. They can easily tap into the emotions and moods of others. It gives others a sense of recognition.

As you understand and process your emotions, you can recognize what somebody else is going through. Your self-compassion translates onto the quality of your relationships with others.

Sensitive people are good at expressing emotions, and don’t back away from talking about them. And communication is the key to any successful relationship.

You connect with your intuition.

Sensitive people often have a unique understanding of their inner guidance.

Every person has an intuitive voice. Not everyone can tap into it. Sensitive people recognize and trust the inner wisdom.

You are wired to pick up on subtle changes in your feelings. You intuitively know when something is right for you. You can discern between heaviness and spontaneity in your heart.

Answers to problems come to you. You can pick up on the atmosphere in the room. You sense what the person in front of you needs.

Sensitive people are wired to process information more deeply than others do. In the face of an adversity, you can see connections and opportunities that others miss.

If you want to connect even deeper with your intuition, meditate regularly and observe your body in stressful situations.

You are a master at self-awareness.

Self-awareness means ongoing attention to your internal states. It facilitates better choices and improves the quality of your life.

As you can manage your emotions, you recognize that what most people chase after won’t bring you happiness. When you feel incomplete, you know that external pursuits won’t make you whole. Only understanding and working through your internal states can improve your life.

You don’t follow the ‘correct’ path. You forge your own according to your emotional intelligence. You tap into your needs and desires instead of the expectations of society.

Instead of being a reactor, you become an observer. You watch your thoughts and emotions. You understand where they come from. Instead of avoiding painful situations, you deal with them.

With consistent self-awareness, you are better at regulating your emotions and responses. People who can manage their feelings build successful relationships, careers, and lifestyles.

Instead of spending your attention outwards, you focus it inwards.

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. Self-Awareness is the key to self-mastery.

Aristotle

You go after what you want.

As sensitive people are hyper aware of their feelings, they are better at handling difficult situations.

Sensitive people see the world differently. And because they also feel more deeply than others, they are very artistic and passionate about everything they do.

This passion drives their endurance in overcoming challenges. Failure is not even in their vocabulary. Instead, they coin it into an opportunity to learn or as a redirection to something better.

Most people fear making mistakes. This fear stops them from pursuing their dreams. You are not one of those people.

Failure is as destructive as you believe it to be.

As a sensitive person, you recognize fear as an incentive to go after what you want. You see the world as a beautiful place, full of challenges helping you to evolve.

You don’t fear desires as they are a form of your artistic expression.

You are a pro at gratitude.

Sensitive people can pick out details that others miss. They know how to appreciate the little things.

The appreciation for the ordinary is sensitive people’s strength. The feeling of gratitude gives them a sense of harmony and joy.

You see each day as a new leaf full of magnificence and opportunities. Every season of life offers you a new lesson.

Yes, you feel the pain more deeply, but you also see beauty in things people take for granted.

Sadness makes you appreciate good days. On a rainy day, you don’t frown but anticipate the rainbow and appreciate water as a life force for the plants.

You celebrate life with every opportunity you get. And this positive attitude is contagious. You attract optimistic people into your life, blessings and good fortune.

Gratitude changes your energy. And how you feel, you attract. As you pay attention to the details, your creativity soars.

Sensitivity is a beautiful trait. It is tapping into the part that makes you human.

Never apologize for being sensitive or emotional. Let this be a sign that you’ve got a big heart and aren’t afraid to let others see it. Showing your emotions is a sign of strength.
