Part 1 of 4 — 18 Medium articles I curated
Part 1: 5/18 Medium Articles I Curated In A List For Me, And My Takeaways
Amazing articles that serve as reminders and others providing insightful food for thoughts
Over the past month on Medium as an avid reader and writer, I’ve been curating articles that I enjoy or want to keep for myself to serve as a reminder of any sort. Here’s a small collection of them, broken into a 4 part series. Each part consists of 5 articles, with the last one containing 3.
I’ve included some of my highlights from these articles. For those without or with minimal featured highlights, there’s simply just too many that I’ve highlighted within the linked article. For others, it’ll give away the point of the article.
1. Why You Should Stop Looking for A Purpose in Life By Priyanka Bhalshankar
“The literal meaning of life is whatever you are doing that prevents you from killing yourself.”
This piece is very beautifully written. I started creating this list of articles to curate after reading this story. This story serves as a reminder to me. I think it applies to other people who are searching or have searched for their purposes in life too.
My takeaway: Seeking purpose reinforces the feeling that you don’t have it. Don’t search for it, but rather, create it. Some things aren’t meant to be found but created. Sometimes, the purpose of life is the way we live it, instead of chasing something external.
2. Everything Stems From Self-Worth And Here’s Why by Tu-Hien Le
Worthiness is deep within all of us and we are all innately worthy.
Some of my highlights from this article (copied directly from my highlights):
Forgive yourself for the belief in those stories. Then you can be free to rewire and tell the new story to yourself of how you are worthy.
Your self-worth is infinite and does not need to be validated by anyone else but yourself. You fill your own cup.
You will know, those feelings are from others projecting onto you. They are just stories being told that are not truths and do not come from you
My takeaway: As someone working on self-esteem and struggling with self-worth, I find this article very helpful. This provides comfort and it has a few valuable things to keep in mind as we work on the wounds of our inner child.
3. The Unspoken Reason Why Everyone is Quitting Their Job by Kyle Chastain
If we’ve learned anything through the 2008 crash and the 2020 pandemic, it’s that even “safe” jobs aren’t safe.
Do you know what’s more valuable than a respectable job title and a hefty bank account? Time. It’s the one thing my co-worker can’t get back.
But what’s more important is that our perception of work is changing too.
My takeaway: Re-evaluate the way you see your job. A job is your job, not a lifestyle. You could give everything you’ve got to a company, but they could let you go at any moment in time whenever it’s convenient for them. You’re worth so much more than that. This has been a very interesting and insightful read. This article highlights points that we may have heard or known of, but have probably not spared too many thoughts about it since it’s so normalised.
4. Tim Ferriss’ System for Mastering Any Skill Is Pure Genius by Hannah To
Keyword: systematic. It’s not enough that you understand the essence of a new skill. It’s not enough that you just read a book or two about it. You must try to extract the best methods through other means, too.
My takeaway: Tim Ferriss used this method to learn any skill. As a famous figure who has mastered many skills, his system is proven to be effective. This seems like an effective system to adopt, though it’s not easy. Not sure if it’ll work for me yet, but I’ll try it once I have a little more time to spare — once my semester break starts.
5. How to Become Successful — Even Though You Feel Ordinary by Jon Brosio
The harder you work, the more talented you become. When you develop your talents, you find more belief in your abilities. When you believe in yourself more, you take more chances and thus find luck! Of course, when you hack being lucky — it causes you to work even harder and the cycle continues.
My favourite takeaway: Be naive enough to reach. This is one of the points mentioned in the article, and it’s my favourite part. I’ve seen many people who wants this and that, and so much more. But they’re scared. Either conditioned by societal expectations or the excuses they give themselves that limit their dreams and potential. They’re not wrong, and everyone lives with different circumstances in their lives. But those who really dare to dream, reach, and work towards their goals, tend to be closer to their dreams.
Because too many others are afraid to take their shot, I’m able to find my place here above the clouds.
Ninety-nine percent of people in the world are convinced they are incapable of achieving great things, so they aim for the mediocre. The level of competition is thus fiercest for ‘realistic’ goals, paradoxically making them the most time and energy-consuming.” — Tim Ferris
There are many other good points mentioned in the article, which made me curate them. I think it’s very worth the 8 minute read. Do check it out and highlight the valuable points that stood out to you!
