7 Things I’ve Saved Money on During The Pandemic

The list is longer than I expected, and I’m grateful

The Pandemic took a lot of things away from us, but some of that is actually for the better. Some of us have more money in our pockets than ever, and have put it towards other things that improve our life.

Here’s My list:

  1. Eating out — Ever since the Pandemic happened, I have spent more time learning how to cook. I prefer to eat at home now. From time to time, I’ll go out for food if I want to spoil myself, but more times than not, I just wait until I go home and eat for free!
  2. Concerts and events — Although I miss concerts and events, I have been saving roughly $200-$300 a month because I was an avid event-goer. I’ve spent more time working and discovering more things about myself than I ever had before. Going to fewer events has offered me more introspection.
  3. Gas — With the amazing opportunity of working from home, I’m able to save gas money by doing all the work I need to from my bedroom or a local library. Fewer miles on the road keeps my car in better shape too! I don’t mind using that extra gas money towards investments or time with my girlfriend.
  4. Gym membership — Being deployed overseas taught me a lot about making the most with what you have. One of the cheapest forms of exercise is running because you need running shoes, music, and motivation. I haven’t been to a gym in forever, and that’s because I either turn or do free-weight workouts at home. I don’t mind!
  5. Travel — I miss traveling, but I also don’t mind having extra money in my wallet. I’ve seen my savings account grow exponentially, thanks to my cutback on travel expenses. There are so many costs! Flights, ubers, car rentals, hotels, and so much more! It adds up really fast.
  6. College Education — Ever since I deployed, I cut school out of my agenda and I’ve never gone back. I was blessed with opportunities to work with one of my friends from high school, and he’s been nothing but a great CEO for Haikhuu Trading. I understand the value of knowledge, and just because I’m not in school doesn’t mean I’m not learning. Some of the most successful people like Steve Jobs, Bill, Gates, and Mark Zuckerburg didn’t go to college, and are doing fine. I feel no guilt in pursuing my dreams on my own dime.
  7. New Clothes and Apparel — Thanks to the Pandemic, I have had more time to go through my entire wardrobe, and I discovered so many high-quality clothes that I forgot I’d purchased before. Going out to malls or stores for something to do is no longer a thing, and there are fewer unnecessary impulses that I act on. I treat myself to nice button-ups or shoes every once in a while, but I make the most with what I have, without breaking the bank to thrive in style.

These are just a few of the most evident things that I’ve saved money on ever since Covid-19 broke out. Although I wish we weren’t in a pandemic by any means, I’m looking for any light at the end of the dark tunnel that I can.

If you’re feeling stressed about the pandemic and the current state of the world, try to find some positives that have come out of it. Here I go. I met the girl of my dreams and get to call her mine, I landed my dream job, saved boat loads of money, and I’m putting out more content than I ever have in my life.

Look for the light amidst the darkness. Just have a little faith!
