Valentines Day During a Pandemic is 10x More Impactful

It’s been a stressful year, but if you have a significant other during this time, everything’s better

You find love when you least expect it, and I met my girlfriend through a little dating app you may know of — Tinder.

I returned home from deployment in July of 2020 and met the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with shortly after. It’s crazy how the timing of things work. Prior to her being in my life, everything felt like it was falling apart.

Going through the Pandemic alone served as a true test to myself and the idea of being okay, being alone. But thanks to Roselyn, I have the best friend, girlfriend, and everything in between that I could have ever wished for.

Here we are, nearly six months later celebrating our first Valentine’s day together and I’m filled with so much joy and happiness. I recognize how lucky I am to be able to spend the entire day with her.

Instead of thinking about all the bad in the world, all the things we can’t do, we’re appreciating the moments we get to share no matter how simple they are.

This Valentine’s Day Doesn’t Need All The “Extra” Stuff

Most people break the bank to have a good Valentine’s Day. But when faced with a rough Pandemic, there aren’t a whole lot of available experiences.

I really like the simplicity of this year. Society for the most part has already wrapped its heads around the idea that the world is different, and we’re all coping differently. Some people are falling into a deep depression, and others are finding ways to make the most of it.

It’s all about perspective in this Pandemic on how you make the most of your Valentine’s Day. You could spend it kicking the wall and thinking about what you wish you could be doing, or you can appreciate each other’s company and spend quality time together.

More Thoughtful Gifts

Since there aren’t a whole lot of available experiences to be had like a show, concert, or event, gift-giving becomes much more wholesome and meaningful.

Depending on your love language, gifts may define the way someone loves you, or they could be a bonus token of love and appreciation. Personally, I don’t expect anything expensive to be happy. It’s the thought and creativity that counts.

A price tag doesn’t define how much you love someone, but the meaning and genuine thought that goes into what you’re giving does.

Final Thought

I’ve spent more Valentine’s Days alone than most people, but the fact that I have the most amazing Valentine I could have asked for during such a pressing time as we’re in right now, nothing could be better.

You’ve gotta appreciate the little moments, the little things, and look towards the brighter side this year.

Companionship, love languages, and meaningful time together outweighs any of the extravagances outside of a Pandemic. Happy Valentine’s Day.
