The Future of Schooling: Online Classes

The pandemic has changed the way school operates forever

Please take your seat, students! No, not in the lecture hall, but instead in the comfort of your own home.

The world is changing.

As a young person trying to pursue my dreams in life, earning the degree will help me achieve my goals a little easier.

In college, I took logic and math classes online. Both courses were not particularly hard for me because I am a guy who enjoys playing around with numbers.

Online classes are much more different than learning from someone face-to-face. Kids who are strong self-teachers thrive and excel in online classes.

They don’t exactly have to listen to the professor’s lectures, kill every exam, and finish with an easy A.

Unlike the self-taught kids, I struggled to earn my C’s. I received two of the lowest grades in my schooling career since I just wasn’t there to learn in person.

As the pandemic puts crowded classrooms and lecture halls potentially on hold, it’s best to know the pros and cons of online schooling.

It may become education’s “new normal”.

You Set Your Own Class Time

As someone’s who’s always on the go, I assumed online classes would be great for me because I could just move things around to squeeze online class time into my schedule.

Making time didn’t turn out to be the case for me at all.

Instead, I spent most of my time adjusting my online class schedule around so much to make time for other commitments. I didn’t have the best strategy, and it showed.

If you’re trying to adapt to online schooling, I encourage you to pick a class time and commit to it as you would any face-to-face class.

No Instant Feedback

When you’re trying to learn something new, it’s nice to have the ability to ask questions should they arise, right?

In the case of online classes, a teacher or professor won’t always be there to answer every question you may have right away.

The best-case-scenario for you to get the answer is probably through email, which could take up to 24-hours before you finally get your response.

It seems like you’re going through the class all by yourself.

I struggled a lot personally. Online classes forced to spend extra time figuring things out on my own. The self-teaching was an excellent experience in hindsight, but with the way, most classrooms are going digital worries me just a bit.

If everyone in the class is on a Zoom call together and someone asks the professor a question, this could serve as a handy tool for all students.

Unless we switch to live video, I believe the lack of instant feedback will be the reason many students will struggle in the future.

Whether you’re pro-online schooling or not, I believe that education is going too evolve tremendously in 2021 and beyond.

For safety reasons, many people are most likely going to try online school to see how it goes.

Perhaps my online schooling experience is an anomaly, and it will work for 99 percent of people who read this piece.

Although I have self-taught myself plenty about social media and marketing, I still prefer a face-to-face lesson the majority of the time.

When you’re self-aware and understand the way you learn best, nothing can stop you. If you’re a future college student, do everything you can to prepare for a scenario where all your learning is digital.

The future of education is evolving fast.
