10 Things I Like About You
What qualities make me like a person…
This fabulous prompt Deep Thought December Prompts (Day 18) is from Ruby Noir at Read or Die.
What creates a likable person? Is there any such thing as a completely unlikable person? I like lists — so make lists of traits that, in your mind, create likability and the ones that diminish it. Can a person be both? How much does one have to override the other for it to define them? Is it ever universal? Explain.
I feel like this is completely subjective. It’s different for each person. There are people we just click with. And although there are some generally unlikable people, I don’t think it’s universal at all. I truly believe that there is someone for everyone.
While a person may have unlikable traits, myself included, stronger likeable traits can override them. So these are totally subjective lists of things I find attractive in people.
Likeable Traits
1] A generous spirit- The want to give back.
2] A good sense of humor- This is necessary, you have to be able to laugh at life.
3] Wit- I love a quick witted person.
4] Kindness- A giving over of yourself to others, even just a kind word said to someone.
5] Sarcasm- I’m a sarcastic person myself, and I appreciate that in others.
6] Intelligence- I like a person I can play chess with and have philosophical discussions.
7] Creativity- I’m attracted to creative people in general, no matter what form it takes.
8] Acceptance- The ability to accept people as they are.
9] A sense of understanding- Having the ability to look at things from different angles and perhaps forgive.
10] A love of animals- I’m obsessed with animals, and I appreciate that in a person.
Unlikeable Traits
1] Arrogance- No one person is more special than any other.
2] Elitism- No one person is better or worse than any other.
3] Racism- Unforgivable, I want nothing to do with racists.
4] Classism- Our worth isn’t based on how much money we have or make.
5] People who yell a lot- It is really triggering for me.
6] People who abuse their power- I’ve had a few bosses in my day that were pretty high on themselves, and they definitely used their position to get away with things.
7] People who talk about how fat they are all of the time- Who cares?!
8] A willingness to learn and change- We could all use some self-improvement.
9] People who are obsessed with themselves- Narcissism is not attractive.
10] Materialism- In the end things aren’t what’s important. I certainly won’t be laying on my death bed wishing I bought a Lexus.
Thank you for reading my lists. I’d love to hear your responses.
