10 Simple Things Changed My LIFE And I Mean It!

Knowing you are becoming someone you can be proud of, there is no greater motivation than that ~ Jeff Haden

I read this book Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear last year and it made me think and think hard, there are many things in life I just do for sake of a habit, and I hardly noticed it before I came across this book.

This book is so powerful, I am going to write a review on it very soon.

It says, on average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact.

In other words, if you want to set your expectations appropriately, the truth is that it will probably take you anywhere from two months to eight months to build a new behavior into your life .

Whether you are trying to save up money or lose a few extra pounds, it depends on daily habits of taking and how long you are going to practice.

I noticed some of my habits that are not productive or not adding any value in my life and I am slowing and steady working on it.

If you are also in the same boat and want to make your life more productive, easy and simple, you are at the right place. Let’s dig in!

1- Small change in your daily routine can help scale up your life — 1% good change in a day can lead you to improve nearly 40% of your life.

If you are in your fitness journey, or working toward your professional goals, trying to learn a new skill, one small habit can lead you to a success ladder or doom you for your entire life.

2- Read More than watching TV /Netflix — If you are a Game of Thrones fan like me, you must know this quote from Tyrion Lannister —

“My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his warhammer, and I have my mind… and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much”

Reading books can help you to develop concentration, create a unique perspective on things and help you to overcome difficult situations and increase your mind creativity.

If you don’t like reading, listen to audio books, subscribe to Podcast, YouTube Channel. The idea is t set some time aside for your personal growth.

3- Do not bother what other people might think — I am guilty of thinking constantly what other people might say and not thinking about myself.

I realized over the time, there will always be some people who will not say or think good things about you. End of the day, the only thing that matters is what YOU think. Don’t let other people’s judgment affect you. You are good and you’re doing your best.

Why not start writing 4–5 things you are good it. Self assurance is required to reduce self criticism.

4- Good Investment/Retirement Plan — Money is important to live life and in today’s world it’s your new best friend.

If you do not have any retirement fund, start with 8–10% income investment in 401(k) or pension/retirement funds. There is a thumb rule that says, one should invest 30% of their income regularly to live after you retire or to take sabbatical from work.

Also create an emergency cash fund to cover at least 3 to 6 months worth of your living expenses.

5-Health is Wealth — You know this old saying and it’s so true. Giving importance to your physical and mental health can make all the difference in your life and people around you.

Everything is possible. Start with a slow walk for 30 minutes or run or 15 mins, daily meditation for 5 minutes etc. It can make your mind calm, your body relaxed and energized .

If you are suffering from anxiety or mental health issues, seek professional help.

6- Family is important — We understand the importance of family when you are either older or when you become a parent.

Family where life begins, and Love never ends.

We take our family for granted and think they are with you no matter what. Family is the only constant in life and they are always there in your thick and thin time.

Call, face-time or just send a text saying how grateful you are to have them in your life. Small positive gesture is all you need to brighten your and your loved ones day.

7- Focus on one single task at a time — I started to clock my time even for small things I do day to day. It helps me to stay focused, productive and helps me not to miss important deadlines while hustling over a million things.

If you have difficulty managing multiple things at times, why not start focusing one thing at a time. Put a timer and dedicate that time fully to complete that task.

8- Learning goes a long way — Learning and unlearning is everything. It can boost your self confidence. Never afraid of learning anything new even if you think it’s small.

The capacity to learn is a gift, the ability to learn is a skill, the willingness to learn is a choice ~ Brian Herbert

This pandemic moved our life upside down and the people who learned the “new” normal quickly survived this unprecedented time better than others.

9- Importance of journaling — I have been writing since I was a teenager. But it was mostly personal to me and never had guts to share with people.

Now I learned how important it is to write and pen down your thoughts. It’s kind of therapeutic and meditative.

If you don’t know how to express yourself verbally or find yourself less expressive in words, why not start writing your thoughts on a paper.

Maybe start with a gratitude journal, and how you feel at that moment. Be honest and not shy away from your thoughts and emotions at that time.

It doesn’t matter, just keep writing for yourself. You love doing it. It will help you to overcome any fear or insecurity you might have.

10- Stay In the Moment — Most of the time, we are either drooling over the past or just worrying about the future. And Forget to live in the present.

“If there is a will, there is a way.”

Put mindfulness into whatever you are doing at this very moment. Add purpose to things you do in your life and be more intentional.

Take a few minutes each day to think about only what’s going on right there in the moment.

“Never forget what you are, the rest of the world will not.” I hope these points are going to help you to make you more fulfilling and progressing in every aspect of your life.

Do let me know in comments what you think and what is the first thing you want to improve.
