Your Polyglot Dream…
A Vagabond Voice Writing and Living Prompt

What is your polyglot dream? To be held in arms that reach across the globe, whispered on lips and tongues at once own and other? To know one more language. Or all, why not, what is a dream if not impossible.
What is your polyglot dream? Does it drift on mother’s melody, lilt, lullaby and lost accents from a place now left to memory. Words snatched and uttered at family gatherings, or suspended midair on summer nights the words flutter and zip, perhaps bite, sting, ever more painful, the languages of childhood.
Does your polyglot dream sing into the future in languages you grasp not yet, not quite, in characters and symbols you scrawl in your notebook or lisp in struggle thrusting towards the prize of holding and being held, of knowing one another with our words, or beyond them.
An invitation: tell us your polyglot dream.
I’ll leave this prompt vague and open to your interpretation.
Feel free to be literal, or metaphorical. Simple, complex, confused. Let several languages play in one place if you like. Use alternative forms like doodle, comic, collage or blackout.
Tell us where you’re going…or where you return in your memories and dreams.
The Polyglot Lovers: the book behind the prompt.
This month in our writing community we are reading the Polyglot Lovers by Lina Wolff. The ‘polyglot dream’ is only one theme in this many-layered book. And the inspiration for this writing prompt (and others!).
This is one book that I don’t really feel like I can sum up for you in a few words. And that’s why I’m glad we’ll be meeting for a book chat on this one! There is too much to say.
