Poetry Prompt Lucky #7!

You Will Always Be There

What sparks joy?

It’s so sweet how you’re always there You are a comfort I didn't know I could appreciate Years and years together as one

I played with you so many times And now my younger family members too We have had wonderful memories

The first time I saw you I had sunshine in my eyes

Decades have gone by You’re still there You will always be The joy in a toy

Busy days come and go But when you catch my attention I remember Those happy moments Here and there

The joy of a toy

I have been an avid follower of Mary Kondo and her unique way of organizing and tidying places up. The other day I thought about the joy material things can bring to our lives.

Don’t sue me! I know that feeling attached to something physical is not ideal but hear me out.

The queen of cleanliness was saying in an interview that having three kids was certainly a challenge. I then thought if she shared her motto with her own family and if they also had to throw out what didn’t spark joy.

I imagined her kids dividing their toys into what they would like to give away or keep.

If you ask me to pick one thing out of my bedroom to save in a burning fire (hopefully it will never happen) I would choose…drum rolls please…my stuffed dog. Ok, ok, maybe this is an exaggeration but this stuffed toy means so much to me.

Weird?

Maybe. I know.

But it was given to me by my mom when I was five and moving countries was no barrier to bringing it along. Does it make sense? I hope so! lol

Some have a favorite book, or a pen but no… I have a favorite kid toy. 😆

I would like to invite you all to write a poem about your favorite “anything” from when you were younger and how it channels to this day. It can be like in my case, the stuffed toy that I so creatively named “Doggy” or it can be about a movie, a specific preferred playing location, an activity, etc.

What would you choose? Why? How did it benefit you in the long run? Did it change you in some way or another? What are the memories that shine through whenever you think about the object? Is it yours? Let us know more about YOURSELF through this poem!
