POETRY PROMPT #6
What Are Your New Resolutions?
New Year, New Poetry
Today being January 2, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! 🎆 And you already know what’s coming all right, let’s talk about some New Year’s resolutions.
In my Mexican tradition, it’s a custom to eat twelve grapes when the clock bells hit the midnight mark. With each grape, you can wish for anything or think about a new resolution.
Want to know one of mine? It’s to write more poetry of course!
I would like to share two of my favorite poetry styles:
Haiku
A Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry in which you can usually have two types. The first one would be to have a 5–7–5 syllable format and the second one has a 3–5–3 format. They usually portray any life situation but have nature as the basis.
As the seasons fly I’ll write verses from the soul Changing as I do
Tanka
A Tanka is very similar as it is a small style and it has a 5–7–5–7–7 format. This is a Japanese format that can evoke an event or any type of mood.
The start of a year Eager to pursue new dreams New resolutions Take the best of me Thrive in all aspects of life Goal: Have Happiness
These are some of my favorite poetry styles that I like to have fun with…
What are your favorite ones? Would you like to share the intention behind it with everyone else? Why do you like it? And a bonus would be to create a poem describing your New Year’s resolutions! The perfect combo right?
