You Have to Jettison The Snail’s Burden to Excel in Life
Stay light to strike.

Have you seen a snail? There is every reason they are slow. They are dragging a heavy load around wherever they go. Is that a problem? It is if you think it is.
Have you tried to carry a 10kg sack of rice from your neighborhood grocery store back home? How fast can you go? Are you still able to run 10 kilometers in 40 minutes? Well, it will take a lot to convince me.
And that is an important life lesson we have to learn, which most of us never do.
Here goes. Let go of your load. Let me be clearer. Let go of your emotional burden. What we cannot see kills us.
I repeated my A ‘Level’ during my Junior College years. It bugs me till today. Yet, I have to admit that I learned so much from it. The School of Hard Knock delivers the most valuable lessons via failure.
I learned that cheers and jeers are delivered by the same group of people when circumstances change. When I was the top student, they blow hot air up my ass. When I collapse, some flock away. Others turn around and step a few steps before going away.
That incident is now 20-years old. The wounds have healed, but the scar remains.
And to my point — This is a good thing. I see that side of human nature that I would have never seen if I continue my life trajectory of success.
I learned 2 things.
- Lessons are there for a reason. Let them stick.
- Battle scars are there for a purpose. They teach us to be humble.
We have to embrace humility to progress. The reason is simple. We fail our way to success. If we cannot deal with failures and start bailing out, we will never progress as an individual.
Make a trip to the gym, and we can this happening in a controlled environment.
Deliberately getting heavier dumbbells to lift creates immense stress on our muscles creating fiber tears. When it heals, they build more strength within the muscles. This explains why we can lift heavier loads over time if we keep pushing our envelope over time.
We pursue success in our individual way. That is the case because your definition of success is going to be different from mine.
There is one commonality on our paths to success.
Learn our hard lessons and take lessons with us. Leave the emotional scars in the past. It has happened, and nothing we do today is going to change it.
What we can do is to forge ahead mercilessly.
The snail does not stop. We can do the same. The snail cannot abandon its heavy load (it is attached to their bodies), but we can.
That is one advantage we have.
We got to be smarter than them … am I right?
