Look, If We Think The Cup Is The Problem — We Can Change It

Are you unhappy over something? Do something about it. Sometimes, all it takes is to change the way we think and we get a whole new perspective.

I used to be fascinated by the cup. Many around me love to debate about the fluid level in a cup. It gets interesting when it is half- (fill in the blanks). And then things start to get a little annoying.

As the story goes, the optimists believe that the cup is half-filled. The pessimists, on the other hand, believe that the cup is already half-empty. The World is slowly inching towards the Dark Ages as the liquid disappears completely.

Why is there a debate to begin with? I mean, half-filled or empty, we still have water to drink. Am I right?

At the very least, it is not a problem for me. I would have taken that cup of water and finished it. I am perpetually thirsty. Water always looks inviting.

Plus, there are so many ways we can deal with the empty cup scenario. We can break it down to several variables too.

Is it about the water level? Okay, that’s good. We have identified the issue we want to solve. Is the weather hot? If it is, add some ice cubes, and then watch the water level inch closer to the brim of the cup after ice cubes are dumped in.

Is it about the mug that is pouring the water into the cup? Is the mug empty when the water level hits the halfway point? For God’s sake, walk to the water cooler and top up the remaining, will you? Well done.

Is the cup too big? You might have used the regular cup to pour the Yakult or Vitagen drink contents. I can solve this problem for you. Pour the liquid contents into a smaller cup. Do you feel happier? That’s great!

Now, we would have solved the cup issue.

Actually, we did not solve the cup issue. It was not the cup issue, to begin with.

It is an issue with our mindset.

We do not have to accept the situation in front of us. We can always do something about it. Even if we cannot, there is still one thing we CAN do.

Walk away from the cup.

Buy a new one, damn it.

Do Something About It!
