How To Be Crazy Successful Writing In Medium (Part 1 — Ideas).

This is Part 1 of my writing series. I will start with the topic of ideas. To be successful in Medium, we have to write. To be able to write, we must have ideas. It all starts here. So, where do we find those ideas to write on?

As writers, we want to be successful on Medium. This definition of success is a broad one, ranging from getting more writing income, getting more exposure, improving our writing quality, etc. Regardless of the end-goal, it starts with writing. To start writing, we need ideas.

Ideas to writers are like blood to our existence. We cannot live without it.

So, where can we find ideas to kick start our writing journey? We need to start from the word itself. This is the definition of the word, Idea, from Dictionary.com.

As you can see, the definition of an idea is broad. There are 9 definitions for the word idea, and in my simple interpretation, almost everything qualifies as an idea.

This is my takeaway. So long as our brilliant minds continue to think, thought bubbles continue to form and whizz past our heads — We have no shortage of ideas. That means we have tons of ideas to act upon and convert into writing.

That is the definition part. Now, I will move on to the highly individual ideation process. I have attached a string of my stories on the process of writing for your reference at the “Related Stories from the Author” segment below.

Feel free to use them as reference materials to kick-start your ideation process. I will not repeat what I have written previously as they can be referred to elsewhere. I would add the following pointers.

For one, we tend to complicate things. Many of us think too much when it comes to converting our thought bubbles into a piece of work filled with alphabets. We do that naturally. As writers, we want to present our best coherent selves to our readers.

This is my suggestion. Instead of pruning and editing our mental ideation tree — Scribble it on a notepad or type it out in a Word Document. Magic happens. When we see the working draft, we are more likely to enhance it continuously until it is publish-ready.

Mental exercises have one con. They stay there. Don’t do that. We have to extract them from our heads and make them visible to our eyes. We will know what to do next, instinctively.

Also, our life experience and immediate physical environment provide the best input triggers into our writing. They nourish us. I often find that curiosity is a spark which is ignited from our direct environment. I could walk a park connector for 15 minutes and start thinking about Mental Health.

Then I would note it down in my smartphone, and it becomes a piece on Forest Bathing and natural downtimes.

In short — We do not have a draught of ideas. We have tons of them coming to our minds, our cumulative life experience, and the physical environments around us.

I believe so.

The stories attached demonstrate my points on the topic of ideas and the ideation process. Have fun reading, and feel free to let me know what you think via the comments.

For tomorrow, I will be focusing on the duration of stories.

Stay tuned.

Get Started And Happy Writing.
