You Have No Competition on Medium
Sounds unreal, but it’s true.
If you’re not a Medium member, you can read this article here.
Do you think that your niche is already saturated? That it’s too hard to gain views and reads? That it’s impossible to compete with established writers? As if they’re on the highway and you’re on the catwalk?
Breaking news: You have no competition on Medium!
Why?
Here’s the evidence.
The zero-sum syndrome
It’s when you think that if one article gets lots of views, another gets ignored. Or when one writer gets lots of followers, another suffers with no audience.
This is not a scale.
It’s false thinking.
Readers’ attention is not limited. It might be hard to get, but it’s there and it’s growing.
One reader will read more from the same thing, just to validate assumptions, or to learn from experience — what others do in their situation, if it works, and how it works.
Infinite Learning
There are two types of people: those who learn from mistakes and those who learn from others. And those who learn from mistakes eventually start learning from others.
Your experience and knowledge are unique.
No one else on the planet can share the same things.
People are hungry to learn more about what they need to know. So they will explore every point of view there is on the same topic. Yours including!
Exponential growth
Medium grows in stable trends and there’s hardly a chance to decline. That means new readers are coming. And new writers too, but they’re also readers.

Look at that graph! A growth from 40 mil. to 60 mil. visitors weekly in 6 months. That’s impressive!

Constant Change
New technology is born every day. Think about it: a few years ago no one would read an article about AI.
Reality check: new knowledge will always be in high demand!
Today it’s the AI. tomorrow probably space travel or drone flying, who knows? The key is to keep up with the trends.
Food for thought: Now many of the established writers will be able to keep up with the new tecnology shift? And those who do, will be starting from scratch with any new topic— are your chances now seem a bit more even?
The bottom line
The only way to validate your niche is demand.
I use tools like Semrush to search for keywords demand. High competition is a sign that there is also high demand.
The hard thing is to place your content in front of the eyes of your readers, which on Medium can be also an easy thing — just go and comment on your competitor’s works and/or submit to the same publications 😉
Trust me, you have no competition on Medium!
There’s room for every one of us, and even for more. You just need to keep it up! Write!
Believe me, your readers are counting on you!
Thanks for reading!
See you next time!
