Writing For Illumination Has Significantly Improved My Work Ethic
It’s not like I was lazy before. I’ve written over thirty books in the past few years, and now I publish a new novel about every two months. But working for the new publication Illumination has taken my productivity to a new level.
When I got a private message from Dr Mehmet Yildiz on 22.03.2020, I did not yet suspect that this would be the beginning of a great adventure.
He invited me to write for the new publication Illumination.
This publication has set itself the goal of becoming one of the top 10 medium publications within a year.
How he imagined Illumination and what it should be, Dr. Yildiz described in this article:
I was immediately convinced by the concept and joined Illumination.
At that time, I was just getting ready to take my work on Medium seriously again. Since the first of March, I had published an article every day back. I had also tried this before, but after one month at the latest, it was always over.
Either a book project got in my way that absolutely had to be finished, or I lost confidence that I would ever be successful on this platform.
By the time I received the news from Dr. Yildiz, I had almost reached that point again. I was incredibly busy, and I was tempted to put off a few days on Medium to get back on track.
But now I was suddenly part of an enthusiastic community of writers cheering each other on and all dreaming a shared dream.
Among my articles, comments by other illumination authors suddenly appeared, motivating me to continue writing.
These comments developed into dialogues, and after a few days, some names were so familiar to me, as if I had known them for ages.
Of course, it was natural for me to look at the work of these people. After all, they had dealt with my articles.
Suddenly, Medium was no longer this soulless platform on which you publish something that then immediately disappears into nirvana, but a real community.
The motivation to continue was suddenly there again. It was easy to write an article every day for the next days and weeks because I knew now that at least a few people would read them.
Of course, my other work did not disappear because of this. I still had to write my books. Before Illumination I had more than enough to do with it. Writing between 3000 and 5000 words every day takes a lot of energy. I never thought I could do much more than that.
I had the absolute will not to neglect Illumination or my books. So I developed a routine that allowed me to do both.
Between nine o’clock in the morning and one o’clock in the afternoon, I now write my books. Afterward, I take a lunch break and then write my articles for Illumination. Right after the publication, I promote my articles.
After that, I do the administrative work for my novels. I manage my advertisements, do bookkeeping, and read books about marketing and writing.
In the evening, I read the articles of my Illumination colleagues. Each time I discover more than I can read, but I always manage ten pieces. If I have something to say about the article, I write a comment, and if I like it very much, I promote it via my Twitter handle.
I then retweet Illumination articles and visit Illumination’s Facebook page to add a Like to the latest articles.

I find it fascinating how motivating it can be when you work with many like-minded people towards a common goal. Suddenly you find the strength and the time to accomplish everything.
Meanwhile, it is unthinkable for me to skip even one day on Medium. I owe this to the great people of Illumination.
