Writing For Illumination Has Almost Doubled My Views And Reads
Dr Mehmet Yildiz’s new publication is snowballing and has a functioning community.
How I came to Illumination
When I went through my Medium Notifications on March 21, I discovered that someone had tagged me in an article. I clicked on the link and read about a new publication called Illumination.
At the end of the article, the founder of Illumination, Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, had tagged a few authors whom he invited to join Illumination as authors or editors.
You can read the article that first brought me to Illumination here:
What Illumination wants to be
Yildiz writes that one of the reasons for Illumination is to respond to the stalled curation process at Medium.com.
The publication was to collect and curate exceptional and high-quality content that might have been overlooked by the Medium curators.
The big goal is to make Illumination one of the top ten largest and most widely distributed publications on Medium.com within twelve months.
At first, I thought that the goal sounded pretty ambitious. I have already experienced several attempts in recent months to make thematically broad-based publications large. All have failed so far.
In my opinion, this has mostly been due to the mediocre quality of the published articles on the one hand and the lack of cohesion among the authors involved on the other.
But I had the feeling from the beginning that things could be different with Illumination. For some reason, I believed Yildiz could make this publication really big and make it a success.
So I accepted the invitation and wrote my first articles for Illumination. I also subscribed to the Facebook page, followed the Twitter account, and the hashtags of the publication and connected with Yildiz on LinkedIn.
I was ready to get involved in the Illumination experiment.
What Illumination has brought me so far
After I got over 100 dollars a month for the first time in March, I now officially belong to the most successful 8% of medium authors.
I attribute this directly to my work for Illumination. To verify this, I compared my views and reads of the first ten days I published on Illumination with the ten days before.
From March 12 to March 21, I didn’t write for Illumination and didn’t interact with the community there. From March 22 to March 31, I published an article in the Illumination publication every day.
I also interacted massively with the other authors of the publication.
I read and commented on articles in the publication and shared them on Twitter. The result was an overwhelming wave of response. My views and reads skyrocketed.
A direct comparison of the ten-day periods before and after I joined Illumination shows my Views went up 46.7%, and my Reads went up 46.5%.
So in both cases, I was able almost to double my numbers within ten days.
Illumination: Current status and outlook
At the time I am writing this, Illumination has 466 followers.
So since the day before, the number of followers of 342 has increased by over 21%. This growth rate is enormous.
It will be exciting to see at what average value the daily growth will level off.
This number of followers has generated Illumination since March 21. If I compare this with the 214 followers of my own publication, which has been in existence for over half a year, you can see how rapid the growth of Illumination is.
Against this background, it is quite realistic that Illumination can rise into the top ten of medium publications within twelve months.
