Write for Strategy, Marketing and Branding
A home for high-quality evidence-based reads on business.

The title of our publication should give you a good idea of what kind of content to expect.
And if you are reading this, I assume that you have a mild interest in writing for this publication. Great! Thank you.
This publication is a home for business and marketing content.
This publication started when about half of my content was in a publication that focused on business content. Then one day, it disappeared.
Suddenly I had all this content without a home. I looked for alternative publications that might take a bunch of old articles. Besides a couple of prominent publications, there seems to be a lack of business publications with quality, evidence-based content. The bar was also very low to publish with some.
Hence I started this publication: Strategy, Marketing and Branding.
I’m not going to poo-poo your content if you don’t use an oxford comma. There are three main rules for this publication:
- Keep on topic
- No 3-minute reads
- Evidence of assertions required
I’ll get into those now, then structure and editing.
Keep on topic
This publication is called strategy, marketing and branding.
That is the kind of content that we will accept. It has to be about business — which is still a pretty broad topic.
We’re looking for any content about business with insight, tips, learnings and thought-provoking content.
Let’s improve the quality of business knowledge on Medium.
No 3-minute reads
Articles have to be a minimum of a five-minute read. That’s around 1300 words.
As the only saying goes, if you don’t have something worthwhile to say, don’t say anything at all. I don’t think you can fit enough evidence for having an opinion in three minutes.
There’s always a back story and the 5 W’s: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How?
Using the 5 W’s is a great way to format your writing. It will help you gather relevant information to tell a story or solve a problem.
Evidence is required
We need facts.
We need to know where you got the information you are talking about. Either a hyperlink to an article you found online or to the scientific literature.
Anybody who has read a few of my articles will be familiar with how I structure my writing.
Like this one:
Or this one:
Use quotes from the literature to enhance the credibility of your assertions. Not everything in a blog article or other source found on Google has any evidence for their assertions.
Use Google scholar. Use a couple of keywords. Read the intro and the conclusion first to see if an article is relevant, then the discussion. A good quote should be in one of these sections.
Or, you might have learnt something through your own experience.
Talk us through your experience. Provide relevant examples and case studies.
Structure and editing
If you submit to this publication, then that gives me the right to tinker with your content before it’s published.
But if you stick to my recommendations, I won’t have to do many alterations.
Grammar is also essential. Please use Grammarly. Get the premium version if possible— it will improve your writing so much it’s worth the small investment.
However, if something is good enough to accept evidence-wise, I will edit some of the grammar before publishing. Please don’t get annoyed if this is you!
It will increase your article's chances of being curated (distributed in specific topics), which is good for you and good for us.
Take note of how I structure my writing. I will leave a few bullet points below for key tips:
- Try to keep the majority of sentences below 20 words. Some short sentences. Occasionally some longer ones, to give some personality to your writing.
- Vary paragraph length, and nothing too long and bulky. New thoughts go to new paragraphs. Any more than 4–6 sentences in a paragraph is too much.
- Not too many images. For something 1500 words, you might have three. 2500 words, 4–5.
- Introduction and summary. 5–6 sentences in each.
Summary
We’re a medium publication focused on sharing quality content to help people understand marketing and business better.
We talk about our successes.
We provide evidence for our assertions.
We share interesting ideas and stories.
We’re Strategy, Marketing and Branding.
I think I just made up a jingle. If you would like to be added as a writer, please leave us a comment.
Cheers.
