Join The Conversation — November 6, 2020
I’m Tree Langdon, an editor at Illumination and Words In Motion. I’m so inspired by the talented writers I’ve met here, and I’m always interested in your point of view.
This is an update on Words In Motion.
We have welcomed twenty-nine talented writers to Words In Motion so far and have featured their stories, including a selection of previously published ones that are featured as “Writer’s Choice”.
You can navigate there from our main page. This article features newly published stories.
New writers — Did you notice my recent invitation for your older stories? There was so much positive feedback, I’m keeping this page open for a while longer. I’d love to see more of your Oldies But Goodies. See below for details.
November arrived so quickly I almost wasn’t ready for it.
I was inspired to join NaNoWriMo again. It’s my third time. Last year I didn’t participate, but the pandemic is keeping me close to home this year so I figured I’d be able to find the time to write.
It’s already stressing me out so I’m trying to stay positive and focus on my daily goals instead of looking at the entire month.
In case you don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It’s a challenge to write 50,000 words in 30 days, which averages out to 1668 words a day.
I’m going into this year with an outline, using the Story Grid spreadsheet. The working title is Northern Moon, in the Action genre, with a Worldview-Maturation subplot.
The spreadsheet gives me direction when I’m feeling uninspired. There are days when writing 1668 words is a huge challenge, and I want to have some idea of where to begin.
The protagonist’s name is Piper, and she has a twin brother she doesn’t know about yet and it’s set in the future, so the environmental changes are also a big part of it.
Thanks for following me on this journey. I’ll update you on my progress as I go.

Today’s ‘Writer Challenge’.
I’m creating a project on Quora and would love it if you’d join and contribute. It’s The Urban Food Project and we are going to share ways to promote food security.
I’ve created a special page call ‘Writers Choice’.
I’m featuring your special favorites there.
Select a story that you really love, but it didn’t get enough attention, and now it’s languishing in the archives. Give it a read and a bit of polish if it needs one.
It’s ok if it’s sitting in another publication. If you want to transfer it over to Words In Motion, submit it and I’ll be happy to invite it into our friendly home.
Either way, it’s time to shine the light on your best story.
A meaningful conversation between writers includes reading, responding, sharing and appreciation.
We’d love to hear what you have to say.
Say hello to your fellow writers at Words In Motion.
Let’s get to know each other.

WORDS IN MOTION NEWSLETTERS
If you know a talented writer who might want to write for us, please pass this invitation on to them.
I’m grateful to ILLUMINATION for their generosity in embracing other publications.
Most of Illumination’s writers have small publications that benefit from their encouragement. ILLUMINATION is committed to supporting these little guys and asks that you support them as well.
Illumination encourages our writers to write for other publications on Medium and don’t discourage them from testing new opportunities as they arise.
This concept of collaboration is huge and has resulted in some interesting synergies. It’s unusual to find a situation where editors of one publication encourage their writers to support another publication, but that is what they do.

Dr Mehmet Yildiz maintains that diversity is enhanced by sharing information within the writing community and we will all benefit in the long run.
I agree.
I invite you to discover these publications and sample their writing.
I thank Dr. Mehmet Yildiz for his ongoing support of Illumination writers who have started their own publications. With this opportunity, I want to invite you to my publication.
