PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

Wind, Rain, Flowers, and More Wind

Week 39 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

Just as we are leaving April behind, the temperatures are dropping again and several days of howling winds are following. A bit of rain is feeding the ground with the needed precipitation and our walks in the forest get cooler again.

It was raining. Heavy. It doesn’t come out on the picture that well but it was pouring down today. Later in the afternoon, after it had stopped raining, we went for a walk through the forest.

Birds were singing so loud showing their appreciation for the long-awaited rain. The air was fresh. Clean. And it was peaceful. Here in the forest at least.

On today’s walk, I took pictures of various categories. In preparation for the next upcoming articles, I was capturing different tulips and a lot of photographs of cherry, apple, and pear blossoms.

And this beauty in between. Growing on a bush right next to our walking trail the bright yellow color immediately caught my eye. The Cytisus scoparius is native in western and central Europe and is known under the name of Scotch Broom or Common Broom.

We often hear them. Mice. Rustling in the undergrowth of the forest. They blend in so well on the forest floor it is very hard to see them. Plus they are fast too. Sometimes we just see the leaves moving. Rarely we get a quick look at them. Just before they disappear in their hole.

Today we were walking along the edge of the forest when I saw a mouse running through the tunnels right next to me. Countless holes were to be seen. But in between, she stopped.

I carried my camera around my shoulders. Close enough to grab. And as I tried to focus the mouse disappeared but stopped soon after just in between the next entrance of two tunnels. Gotcha!

I only ventured once out of the house. To capture these tulips I had been watching in my neighbors’ garden for a few days already. They are blooming for a long time already. Strong plants they are.

Only now I do see the first signs of withering. The edges of the petals start to curl down. Not taking any beauty away from the tulips, it just makes them more unique.

And just because nothing is eternal in life I’m sharing another view across our lovely fairytale village. Because who knows how long we will still be staying here and how long I will be able to enjoy this view.

Appreciate the things you have in life while you have them. Otherwise, you will be sad once there gone. You will regret not having been grateful for them when you had them.

I thought already the last days we had strong winds. But today it took on another level. From early morning on I could hear the wind howling around our house. It actually felt like it’s pushing through the wooden doors into our house.

Despite the gale-force wind today we did head out for a walk. The last two days we felt lazy and thought the weather wasn’t right, so we skipped them. Well, today it was raining on top of a constantly stronger becoming wind.

We crossed the village and entered the forest on the other side. All of a sudden I stopped. Didn’t I just photograph the other day bold branches with a tree bud here and there? And look at the forest now! It’s green. Full of leaves. That happened quickly!
