Why Willpower Isn’t Working For You
And change the way you do things
Have you ever wonder why when you try to lose weight, and you step on the scale, you felt disappointed? And you start to think that this world doesn’t want you to be fit and look fabulous?
I used to believe that we have the power to do whatever we want, and after I have tried different ways to reach my goals, I still think that we have that power, but I changed my mind at some specific points.
Certainly, we all have the power to decide what we really want according to the area that you want to be the focus on. Take the decisions, whether it is going to be right or wrong. We should always own it and take responsibility for it. You are the one who decides, no one else.
I said, take responsibility for it, and that is good. You know why? Because when we take responsibility for our actions that lead us to be aware of our next decision. Therefore, it will help us to become aware and alert.
Remember that thoughts lead to feelings, feelings lead to actions, and actions lead to results. It is always like that. No matter what you do, in each area of your life. The results that you are getting are the reflection of the decisions that you are making. So, is it not essential to be aware of it?
Mostly all the time, we are on autopilot. We don’t even think and stop ourselves from analyzing what is going on, why we are not getting the result that we are expecting to get.
When we make a decision, whether it would be good or bad, it is a must to analyze first. And it will be better if you have one or two options instead of too many to get better results.
“We are kept from our goal not by obstacles but by a clear path to a lesser goal. — Robert Brault”
For example, if we want to eat and keep healthy food, keeping in your kitchen chocolates, sodas, cookies, and ice cream is not going to make our decision a bit harder?
Let’s consider this.
The Best Replace Of Willpower: Keep focusing On Your Environment
“Don’t join an easy crowd; you won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high. — Jim Rohn”
I know we all have common sense, but it is different to have common sense than to practice common sense. The strong power of our environment works much better in all the areas of your life.
Remember when you complain because you don’t have the willpower to do that one thing that you want to do all your life. Raise your head and look at your surroundings.
The environment makes who you are. Your wealth is the result; your weight is the result; your health is the result. Recognize it and take action.
The Environment At Home
“If we do not create and control our environment, our environment creates and controls us. — Dr. Marshall Goldsmith”
I don’t know which your goals are in life. Therefore I can’t tell you what to do. What I can tell you is that we can do small things to improve your mental and physical health at home, having the right environment. Hence, you shouldn’t hesitate to make the right decisions.
- If you want to sleep well, move the tv from your bedroom. I used to have a tv in my bedroom, and it is worse than you can do if you want a deep sleep. Sleep is so important, and our room should be a temple just for that you can have books to read or a journal to write instead.
- If you want to eat healthy food, don’t keep junk food at home, through away all the stuff you have in your kitchen, cookies, ice cream, chocolates, and make it easy to make decisions when you want some snacks, you can replace for nuts or some fruit. Try to buy healthy stuff after make exercise or after gym we always feel more motivated after a workout.
- If you want to be fit keep your sports clothes close to you in the morning and your backpack ready and close to you, doing that you do not have to think too much to go out to do work out.
The Work Environment
“We are kept from our goal not by obstacles but by a clear path to a lesser goal. — Robert Brault”
If you want to be focused at work, you need to remove all distractions from your physical and digital workspace.
It is also important when you change your environment, such as surrounding yourself with different people, your thoughts, and your emotions change.
We all have friends who go out with us. If you are aware that some of them are not a good influence for you or they are not aligned with your goals, stop seeing them. If they are family, I do not suggest that you have to cut them off, but you can see them less and meet new people who match your values.
It is the truth that we are the average of the five friends that we go out or we see more frequently. So be careful who you spend most of your time with.
Remember, If you want to fly with eagles, don’t swing with ducks.
Finally, you can see how important our environment is. How with the right environment you don’t need willpower. Everything is close and around you. If you can change little by little small things or habits, you will see significant changes in your daily life.
Willpower doesn’t work or if it works is for a short time. Why not change everything that you have around you. Give it a try, and you will thank me later.
