Why We Need To Eat One Apple Per Day and What We Know About Apples

Eating fruit is one of our daily habits, but eating one specific fruit is damn good for us. If we eat that fruit every day, we will feel it in our immune system. I love to try that out when I’m done writing this story.

We all know that we need to eat fruit every day. We need to eat healthy as much as possible. It is good as we eat one apple per day. It is good for our (body)system. It also boosts our immune system. You feel more energized.

An English sentence says: “An Apple per day keeps the doctor away”. It is an old sentence, but still, it is topical.

There are 7500 different kinds of apples. These are eleven well-known apples I will tell you something about.

Jonagold Apple

The Jonagold Apple is developed in 1953 in the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES). This apple is a cross between Golden Delicious and Jonathan. This apple is a sweet and large, with a thin skin green-yellow. It is a fully crispy, juicy, and aromatic apple. The skin is fully red or the skin is red with green. This apple is very popular in Belgium and also in The Netherlands.

Cameo Apple

This apple is discovered by chance by the Caudle family in Washinton orchard in 1987. The parentage is uncertain. It is not sure what the cross is, but probably between Red Delicious and Golden Delicious. The apple is bright red striped over creamy orange. The taste is firm and crispy with an aromatic flavor. This apple is in the top 9 most grown apples in Washington state.

Empire Apple

This apple is a clone propagated cultivar derived from seed in 1945 by Lester C Anderson, a Cornell University fruit nutritionist. He conducted open pollination research on his various orchards. He harvested Empire seed together with thousands of siblings. This apple tastes juicy, firm, crunchy, and sweet. The apple is red in color.

McIntosh Apple

The McIntosh Apple is red-colored. This apple is called after the discoverer John McIntosh. It is also called Mac. This apple is from the apple cultivar. It is the national apple of Canada. The skin is red and green. It has a tart flavor, tender white flash. The apple ripens in September. In the 20th century, it was most popular in Eastern Canada and New England. You can eat this apple raw or cook with it.

Golden Delicious Apple

This apple is yellow-colored. One of the most cultivated apples in the USA. it is a chance seedling, hybrid from ‘Grimes Golden’ and ‘Golden Reinette’. This apple is originally found by a family farm in Clay West, Virginia, USA. locally, it is known as the Mullins Apple or the Annit Apple. Anderson Mullins sold the apple tree and propagation rights to Stark Brothers Nurseries. It is a large apple with a sweet taste. This apple will be harvested from autumn until winter.

Fuji Apple

Fuji is from the apple cultivar. It is developed by growers of Tohoku Research Station Fujisaki, Aomori, Japan in the 1930s. Then it was brought to market in 1962. It is typically round red large to very large apple with an average of 75 millimeters and it will be fresh up until one year.

Cortland Apple

Cortland apple is one of the apple cultivars. It is raised by New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES), Geneva New York, USA, in 1898. The apple is named after the nearby county Cortland County, New York. after discovering the attributes of McIntosh, plant breeders began crossing. It was first bred by S.A. Beach. It was first brought on the market in 1915 by NYSAES. The taste of the apple is sweet. The color is flush of crimson with a bit of yellow. It is very good as a dessert.

Red Delicious Apple

The Red Delicious is a clone of the apple cultigen with now more than 50 cultivars. It is recognized in Madison County, Iowa in 1880. Between 1968 and 2018 it was the most produced cultivar in the USA. this apple is originated at an orchard in 1880. It is round, blushed yellow striped apple. It was sent by Jesse Hiatt from Peru, Iowa and he called the apple ‘Hawkeye’. In 1914, this apple was brought by a farmer in Clay County, West Virginia, USA. Stark Nurseries bought the rights from Hiatt and renamed it to Stark Delicious.

Gala Apple

The Gala Apple is clonally propagated from the apple cultivar. It tastes mild and sweet which you can add to salads, you can eat it raw or you even can cook with it. The apple is a cross between Golden Delicious and Kidd’s Orange Red. it is planted in New Zealand in the 1930s by J.H. Kidd, orchardist.

Granny Smith Apple

This is the tip-bearing apple cultivar, originated in Eastwood, New South, Australia from 1868. The apple is named after Maria Ann Smith. It is propagated cultivar from a chance seedling. The tree is from hybrid Mulus Sylvestris and Malus Pumila. It is a hard light green-skinned crispy and juicy flesh apple. You can use it for cooking.

Braeburn Apple

The Braeburn is the cultivar from the apple. It is red with an orange apple with a vertical streaky appearance and a yellow with green background. This apple was a chance seedling by farmer O. Moran in 1952 from Whaiwhera, Moutere Hills, Motueka, New Zealand. It is named after Braeburn Orchard near Motueka. The flavor is sweet and tart. The period it will be harvest is from October until April.

Why we need one apple per day

Apples will give us a boost to our immune system. Apples have somehow dispositions benefits. They have fibers, antioxidants and they gave substances that protect us against the flu virus.

I don’t eat that many apples per day or every day one, but some days I eat a few per day. I love Jonagold and Elstar apples. Which one do you prefer to eat?
