Why the Concept of Reciprocal Blows My Mind, and Should Blow Yours Too

I’m a believer

Some ideas are inspired. They come out of nowhere and perch in the soul.

This is my relationship with the Medium publication Reciprocal.

I would like to say that something like this is a natural extension of the Coffee Times Movement, another publication which encourages and rewards its authors. It makes sense to focus on just the aspect of writers helping writers, and empowering all participants in the process. Winston and his fellow editors have done an outstanding job with Coffee Times, and shouldn’t be forgotten in this new experiment.

Reciprocal is the next step. What happens when you have a closed system of writers helping writers? People no longer compete for outside views; we all get to know one another; the success of the one is championed by the whole.

I have high, high hopes for this publication. Let it make a sky full of stars.

I must say, I’m a little shy of listing others to make the chain. I do realize it’s needed for growth. But 1) I’m technically pretty incompetent, and don’t know if I’m doing it right or not, and 2) it feels a little like selling an email list. That said, I have a handful of friends who may enjoy it here:

Angie Smartt Monika Hall Martin French Graham Cooke Justiss Goode

A quick sketch which is fun.

An alternative to trying to make money on Medium. And:

A nuts-and-bolts look at the writing process.
