Medium’s mystery algorithm often changes, and this is no secret. How articles are curated, what stories are recommended to you, and where your opinions originate are all factors that are subject to change. It’s challenging to forecast what they’ll alter next, so estimating how successful your poem will be is difficult. But I’ve tested a few ways that can affect the number of reads and views.

The Power of Poetry has published over 5,000 poems over the past year. This allows me to draw some conclusions, which I share below:
Your engagement on Medium directly influences how often your poetry is read.
1. Read poetry that appeals to you.
It is not enough to read poetry by your favorite writers since they have already shown their writing ability. Try reading poems by other writers instead. Discover who they are and where their inspiration for their art originated from. When you feel that particular poems reflect the author’s personality and choose to read them repeatedly, you will find it easier to become a loyal reader and vice versa(!) How many views your poems get depends on how many poems you read.
2. Create your authentic poetry and publish it regularly.
It’s harder to create poetry that appeals to Medium readers unless you’re already well-known. So instead, try making your unique poetry and publishing it frequently to build a following and gain more readership. Regularity is more important than quantity. Publishing one poem daily is more effective than several poems once a week.
3. Unique illustrations can boost your view count.
The more views you get, the higher chance you’ll be recommended. If readers like your illustration, it will boost the number of views you get and increase your chances of getting recommended automatically. But don’t just create an image for poetry. Think about what you want to say in that poem/illustration and convey emotions or content that will resonate with readers to make them want to read more from you.
4. Every applause is a beautiful gift
Comments and claps inspire the author to continue writing, so thank your readers for their support. A common mistake is to ignore the audience’s opinion or think that a few critiques from readers don’t matter. But if you’re a professional author, positive feedback will inspire you to create more and better poems and know how to improve to satisfy your audience. On the contrary, negative feedback can also motivate you to improve, especially if it’s creative criticism.
The number of comments and claps you leave under the articles you read is more important to the success of your poetry than you might think.
5. Change Topics
Medium allows you to select 5 tags. Therefore, it is essential to carefully choose topics for your poetry. For example, “Poetry” has 594K published poems, and “Poet” 10K. However, you will find the most faithful readers in their favorite topic, “The Power of Poetry.”
Keep in mind that the algorithm used by Medium is constantly evolving. Not only will things and approaches change from month to month and week to week, but also from day to day. The quantity of published articles on Medium is continually weighed against the number of articles viewed.
As a matter of fact, there is no “right” method to write. This article discusses the significance of becoming abreast of how Medium suggests your articles to learn how your work might be promoted to a broader audience.
