Why it’s Better to Have More than One Niche for Your Writing Career.

The reason is more obvious than you think.

I thought that I did have a niche for my business, but there is a wide variety of subjects in my writing. If you want to know what that is, it is entertainment. But I don’t know which part of the entertainment business I am good at writing for.

This niche had more to do with the last three clients that I have written for. They were all fun to work with. But then again, there were some misses in this too. Plus, I worked on the radio as a writer, and I did do some extra work in movies. So I do know something about the industry.

I do need to narrow it down some more. But then again, I won’t be, and here is the reason why. If I choose one niche, I will not be making much money.

To give you an example, I will use my podcast. It is a pagan music podcast. I talk about all things pagan. I want to do that as a niche, but the problem is that it hasn’t made any money for me. I know that not everyone is a witch or into anything metaphysical. I have tried everything to get paid for that podcast: sponsorship, crowdfunding, etc., and I only made a small amount of cash doing that.

There are tons of blogs out there that mention choosing only one niche. I say don’t. Maybe at first, choose one to start your freelance writing career, but add on more if you want to make more money.

Plus, there are just as many blogs on the web that say choose more than one niche. I would go with that because we don’t have just one expertise but many. However, some niches make more money, like fashion, parenting, DIY, health, money, writing, to name a few. You get the idea.

So if you think that only writing about different types of tarot cards out there will make you money, you are wrong. Not all of the hobbies that you are interested in making as much money. You have to choose a niche in the following popular topics mentioned in the above paragraph. Or better yet, if you thought of a hobby that you like and you want to know if it is one of the popular ones people are blogging about, you can always google Popular topics to blog about.

So choose more than one niche when you are starting. It is better to choose between three to five of them. That’s a better way to make money.

Since I am continuing my writing journey, I will be general until I find some niches that will make me smile and have some fun. For those of you readers who have been fans of mine since the very beginning, you can help me figure this out as well.
