Why I Still Use My Analog Dictionaries
Do you know how much I love using analog things? Like my analog dictionaries? And like my analog notebooks?
Our work
I love it so much to use my notebooks and my analog things, but I also want to get along with the digital time. I mean that is what we’ve got these days. We also should use that to be visible to the world with the work we do.
Especially when you’re an artist.
We want our work to be seen. It’s not only the analog books we need to show, but also the digital ones and all our digital work we create. It is our creations we want to show.
We want people to work, daily, monthly or hourly, I don’t know. What I do know is that we can achieve what we want. That is one thing. The other thing is how we can achieve that.
Dictionaries
To me is to work with dictionaries when I don’t know the meaning of a word. I can look it up online, but I can look it up offline in my hand dictionary. That is my analog dictionary. I still love having and using my analog dictionary, because I don’t need the Internet.
I know I will be distracted when I use the online dictionary. So I turn off the Wi-Fi network at home to write my work. I think it is important you create an environment to do your work when you’re not distracted.
I know that I can get distracted easily.
Feeling it in my hands
I also love to hold things in my hands. It feels like you’re an important person. No, that’s a joke, haha. But anyhow, that holding is important to me. I can feel things with my skin, with my body to get the feeling of the story into my body.
Sometimes I was there when I write about personal stuff, but when I don’t, and then I want to try feeling it. By feeling the dictionaries into my hand, I feel like I was there physically. Looking for that word to make my story visible for every one of you. But, also for myself.
I am a person who needs to feel things. Not the things that happened in my life, but also physical objects, like a table, a chair, my bike, my cup of hot chocolate, to name a few things. What do I feel when I touch things physically?! That is what I want to think about.
This works the same with my dictionaries. I mean, I feel, when I touch my dictionaries that the words coming to me fluently when I am writing.
