Why I Deleted ALL My AI-Written Articles

When I started with Medium, I didn’t feel comfortable writing because English is not my native language. My English teacher thought I was a terrible student, and I believed him for quite some time.
When I began writing articles for Medium, the pressure was on. Could I measure up to all these great writers on the app? I still make grammar mistakes but with the help of AI, I could get my content written in a very professional and grammar mistake-free text.
My AI-corrected texts didn’t sound anything like me anymore, but at least this way, they sounded great. At least, that’s what I thought in the beginning.
The more articles I read on Medium, the clearer it became to me that it is obvious to see if a text has been written by AI or not. It always follows the same structure. Here are some examples:
- In the realm/world of …
- words like: captured, delve into
- However (with the same build-up)
- The world of xy is a rich tapestry of xy
- Join us on a captivating journey …

AI-generated texts are often unnecessarily complicated. Even when writers provide clearer instructions to the AI, there is always something missing — the human component.
The more I read on Medium, the less I wanted to read another AI-generated text.
At about the same time, I decided to write more about my own human experiences, my digital nomad lifestyle, and my psychedelic journey, instead of explaining things that you could easily look up on Google or ask ChatGPT or Bard. I still write about the same topics but from my perspective, combined with my own human experiences.
All the answers are just one click away today, right? Nobody wants to go on Medium and pay a monthly fee for articles that are basically responses of ChatGPT or Bard. Anyone can get this kind of information.
The most interesting information that you can find on Medium, at least for me, is first-hand human experiences.
People write so openly about their lives — the good, the bad, the embarrassing times, the struggle, the heartbreak, the joy, the adventure. It is all here.
This is a little treasure, right here, available via app.
I want to contribute to keeping this alive.
After this realization, I felt bad for having used AI for many texts in the beginning. This was not my style anymore; this was not me, and I would not want to read general texts about plant medicine. The human experience was completely missing.
Next thing I know is me sitting on the laptop and deleting about 60 articles that were written with the help of ChatGPT and Bard.

I started with Medium on the first of October, but now my first published article is on the 26th of November, the day I understood that these kinds of AI articles are not wanted here, for a good reason.
This mistake cost me a few hours of my time, but I learned a good lesson, and from now on, you will never ever have to fear finding any AI-written texts in my articles.
I still use ChatGPT for brainstorming or improvement with my headlines but otherwise mainly for the command: Grammar check only, as I still want to publish grammar mistake-free articles, but this time with my voice and message.
Goodbye, 60 AI-articles — RIP.
By the way, since I deleted these articles, my stats and follower count have shot straight up. Who knows, maybe the Medium algorithm scans the writing style, and now without any AI content in my articles, the algorithm works more in my favor? Maybe it has to do with me joining Friends of Medium (FoM). I wish I could give you the answer, but I think no one truly knows how the algorithm works.
