Why Humour Is so Important in Our Daily Life
Like to know my experience with humour?
Imagine a world without humour, and you can imagine a world with far fewer expressions and lesser fun. Humour has been a massive part of my life daily, and I like to share my perspective.
I like to participate in a joke or two in most conversations with friends. Most of the time, it got right, and everyone will laugh. Occasionally it got wrong, and I am embarrassed.
That’s because the joke was politically inappropriate, and I wished it was not said. That’s usually from my wife because she analysed my words meticulously.
Let me share why humour is essential to me:
1. It diffuses many tensions
Have you ever been in a conversation where everyone is solemn? A little humour will remove that tense atmosphere and get everyone chipping in with some exchanges. Hopefully, someone will add more humour to the meeting. Otherwise, you may still look silly with your jokes.
2. It drives a point across
Sometimes, you want to remind everyone not to forget a task. Using humour, we may communicate our point without sounding too harsh or judgemental. I enjoy speakers who use humour in their presentations so that I can stay awake too.
3. It helps me to remember names
Have you ever tried to remember someone’s name and had difficulty? Try adding some humour that rhymes with their names, and you will recall them much longer. Of course, don’t let them know. They may take offence at your silly joke!
Before I end my article, I like you to have fun but also be careful about the following areas:
1. When you use humour, know in advance if that person can accept it.
2. Try to make a joke about some other things rather than about a person.
3. Make fun of yourself. Nobody will be offended.
Lastly, having fun comes with responsibilities, so do not write a silly joke about anyone on social media. That is cyberbullying, and you become a terrible guy overnight!
Be safe, and have a little humour, but in as polite a way as possible!
