TRAVEL
Why Do I Love Travelling?
Is it because I don’t have to go to work? 🤣

Travelling breathes life into me.
That is one of the reasons for my love of travel! Thanks to Adrienne Beaumont and her great story on travelling, I also thought deeply about how I would answer her two questions.
Why is travel so important to me?
When I say travelling breathes life into me, I feel like I come alive when I travel. My eyes are bigger, my mind is sharp and alert, and I’m just itching to get out. Yes, it’s probably some of the effects of adrenaline.
I suppose it’s the mundane nature of my life, just like everyone else. We work, do chores and run errands, spend a little time with our hobbies, and then go to sleep. Repeat each day for what seems like an eternity.

That’s why I travel. I need to break up the monotony of everyday life. I need to see new things, eat at new places, meet other people, and discover new experiences. Travel does this perfectly for me!
Travel also teaches you a lot of important lessons. Valuable knowledge that they don’t teach in school.
Travel can carry its own bundle of other stressors, but I feel like it’s all worth it. As soon as we decide it’s time to travel, I have something to look forward to. I can get out of staring at the same 4 walls of my house, get away from everything familiar to me and explore the world.
I love turning around each corner, not knowing what to expect or see.
When did my passion for travelling overseas start?
Prior to 2010, I’d only have the occasional trip with my friends. After all, I was still in school. I believe that’s when my passion started to grow. In 2010, I visited Malaysia and Hong Kong for the first time.
After that, it was a done deal. I travelled multiple times every year. There were a variety of trips. Some were weekend getaways, like driving to Ottawa. Some were trips nearby, like going to Las Vegas. And of course, the long-haul flights to Asia started too.
Initially, I did make the mistake of cramming too much in one trip. I wanted to see it all! Now I know not to. Visiting a new place for a few hours or a day does not give enough justice at all. From then on, I made sure to give enough time to each destination.

And that’s how all the travelling started! It lasted until 2020 when a certain loathsome pandemic hit the world. It put an abrupt stop to all my travels. I was in Malaysia in February 2020 and had just returned home. That was my last trip until October 2022.
It was a difficult time. I had travelled so much in those 10 years! Yet, it wasn’t enough. I haven’t even scratched the surface of exploring the world.
When the pandemic hit, I had no idea how long it would last. I figured it would go for a month or two. Nope. The “two months” turned into 2 years. 🤬 We were locked up in our personal bubbles. Safe, but unable to travel.

In October 2022, I finally took my first flight back to Malaysia. Travelling felt so foreign to me! I wrote about this in a previous story too.
Thankfully, all was smooth during my last trip. I felt the same adrenaline and excitement. This has been the only trip so far, so I am looking forward to more in the near future.
