Summary

The blog post discusses the cultural and biological factors that might influence whether men or women are more inclined to be foodies, ultimately concluding that food enthusiasm is an individual trait rather than gender-specific.

Abstract

The article, based on personal observations, explores the notion that women may be more food-oriented than men. It presents several points, such as the prevalence of women around food stalls, the role of taste buds, hormonal differences, mood swings, cultural upbringing, fast food consumption, cooking craft, and calorie requirements, to suggest that women might have a natural inclination towards food. However, the author also acknowledges that these factors are not conclusive and that being a foodie is influenced by individual circumstances, such as profession and genetics. The post emphasizes that food enthusiasm is not determined by gender but is a personal attribute, illustrated by anecdotes like Priyanka Chopra Jonas out-eating The Rock in a chicken wing challenge.

Opinions

  • The author observes that women are more frequently seen around food stalls and at food-related social events, suggesting a greater interest in food variety and exploration.
  • It is posited that women have a larger taste bud and higher levels of hormones related to appetite and satiety, which could contribute to a heightened interest in food.
  • The article suggests that women's eating habits are more affected by mood swings and mental wellness, particularly during the menstrual cycle.
  • Cultural norms have traditionally placed women in the role of household cook, potentially making them more engaged with food preparation and variety.
  • Despite these observations, the author recognizes that men generally require more calories and can consume larger quantities of food when necessary.
  • The post challenges the stereotype that men are more food-obsessed by highlighting that food enthusiasm is an individual characteristic, not defined by gender.

Disclaimer: There is no scientific evidence for finding the answer. Men and women two genders are complementary to each other in this beautiful world and still have different desires, experiences, and acts. This blog has been written based on my observations not on facts. But we stress observations are somehow building blocks of facts.

Introduction:

Take a walk to your local Chaupatee/ your city market /sector market and look around, you will definitely find that there is a small crowd around Panipuri The Thela wala or ChatWala. Now look a little carefully at who are more in number men or women? Definitely women, among kids: it's girls. You would listen to voices from girls, ladies to old women they all would surround the small Thela, asking for khatta chutney, meetha chutney, more meetha, free Panipuri, etc, and then look around for men.

Most of them would be in car parking or waiting for their lady love to finish and pay. They have only two words: Kaisediye “ Rate ‘“ and kitna Hua “final bill “. Now look to another corner, what about the momo shop? Who is more in number? Its women, what about Batatapuri: women, Samaso Chat: women and the list go on.

So who is more foodie? Women or men? Of course, it's women then why this line: Men’s heart going through his stomach is so famous? So men have been victimized till today for carrying the tag of a foodie? But think do not we have stories of food cravers in life? We have stories of someone who could eat 20 chapatis or someone who eats til the party ends or think women can eat 20 Golgappas but cannot eat 20, chapatis

so who is now more foodie? Women or men?

Truth is that no one can tell the answer. It's not gender specific but its individual specific. It depends upon your requirement of calories, your profession, your individual habits, etc but today we are not here to settle a draw between men and women. We need a winner today. So we will test both genders on some of the parameters, by the way, it's not scientific here, and see who scores more and the winner will get this bit of uneasy tag : Foodie.

Taste bud : It's conventional knowledge that the taste bud of women’s tug is very large and this makes them craving for trying different tastes, and spices. They get easily bored of food. There are many examples such as ladies' kitty parties Take a look at the party of ladies: kitty party where you will often find too many numbers of a variety of food to eat and enjoy whereas if you look for bachelor’s party: see the difference men just need his alcohol and some snacks and yeah it's plain truth in men’s life. Women love to try many things at the same time to satiate their taste buds whereas men are very simple satiation is very limited. So the score is now :

Match point : Men: 0–1: Women

Chemical Connection: Well researchers say that women have higher levels of GHRELIN and LEPTIN hormones. These hormones are responsible for energy homeostasis which in turn boosts appetite as well as satiety sensations.

In response, women’s body has a natural love for food and a variety of foods.

Match point : Men: 0–2: Women

Mood swinging and mental wellness : It's a common understanding in this world that women have a license to act unpredictably in daily life. It is also a well-known observation that women are not better at handling the stress and anxiety.

Mental issues such as Unipolar depression are more common in women Proof of these claims is women’s behavior during the monthly mensuration cycle when she has to go through many physical & amp; hormonal changes in the body. During this period, she has the tendency to lose control over daily stress issues. Researchers also say that poor mental health directly affects eating habits and hence women have a tendency for overeating. Well, women have been always famous in the men’s community for their mood swings.

In a food-loving country like India, the Food culture is so rich that there is an ample number of foods for every mood. These factors make women more foodies than men.

So now the score is :

Match point : Men: 0–3: Women

  1. Cultural Upbringing : Traditionally Men are supposed to go outside and earn bread and butter for the house and women are supposed to take care of the house -although it's changing for good nowadays -. This has somewhat how inculcated in the Genes of these two genders a fact that men are more prone to live in a lifestyle for survival.’ Act tough is a behavior associated with men’s demeanor so men have been groomed for ages to be ready for every tough condition. Food has never been a men’s life choice, it's only for survival. it was women who dictated and bestowed upon this responsibility that which food would be cooked. Even today in Patricharical society especially in villages & small cities it's the women’s job to decide and cook Men go out of the house just to work and eat whatever household wife gives them. Hence, for men, the chances of having choices or feasting on specific food styles have never been a concern. They eat just able to perform their profession.

Match point : Men: 0–4: Women

2. Fast & Junk Food Consumption :

It's not a hidden secret that women love Fast foods and junk foods more than men like? No, statistically it's wrong. According to The National Longitudinal Survey, Researchers have found differences in the food consumption of men and women. From adolescence to older adulthood, males are more prone to drink soda and consume fast food. There is also a gender difference in the pattern of fast food consumption, with men more likely than women to consume fast food for lunch (48.3% vs. 39.1%) especially among the working class, while women are prone to consume fast food as a snack (25.7% vs. 19.5%). However, females consume more fruits and vegetables.

So the score is now :

Match point : Men: 1–5: Women

3. Cooking Craft : There is no any iota of doubt that women have been taking responsibility for feeding men and the whole family for ages and this has imbibed this craft naturally in her genes and obvious fact can be stated that they have ability & practices to cook & eat foods of several varieties. On the contrary, men do have not a natural instinct for cooking due to our cultural grooming Men has been always dependent on women for food. Although men are now leading women in the Restaurant business even today women generally cook and men eat. So score is Match point : Men: 1–6: Women

4. Requirement of Calories : Nevertheless, women have a tendency to eat a variety of food but it does not mean they beat men when it comes to quantity. Men generally require more calories to maintain their body weight and perform all their tasks smoothly hence Men crave food more.

Men have a higher appetite and thus women can eat 20 Golgappas but not 20 chapatis whereas men can eat if it's required for their actions.

So now the score is :

Match point : Men: 2–6: Women

Although based on these 7 factors women beat men hands down it's obvious that it entries an individual and subjective attribute. It totally depends on his or her upbringing, individual genetics, profession, and goals.

Remember how Indian actress Priyanka Chopra jones defeated The ROCK in the competition of eating maximum chicken wings? So it's never about boys vs girls its always an individual’s attribute.

So truly saying now the score is

Match point : Men: 0–0: Women
