Where Do I See Myself in October 2022?

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

I am not one to do future projections. “One day at a time” that’s my person. I can’t say enough of this, but the pandemic has taught us hard lessons in unpredictability.

If I work with my current plans, hopes, and aspirations, these are the things that would happen.

I would be gainfully employed.

In Canada, in order to sponsor your spouse, it’s expected that you are in full-time employment. I am actively applying for roles now. Fingers crossed, I’ll get an offer soon.

I would be richer

I never really knew debt until I migrated to North America. Back home, people buy what they can afford. At least, that happens in my family. We also have an investment culture, so when there is a surplus from one’s income, we invest it. These investments keep you buoyant when the going gets tough.

In North America and most of the western world, it is very normal to own a credit card. Most people rack on debts on these cards. Sometimes, it is no wonder people don’t have savings. How do you save when you are busy paying off debt?

In August 2021, a senior colleague introduced me to crypto investment. After he gave me a head start, I paid him back with my emergency fund. Every week, my investment grows. Experts have projected that it would double by the 7th month. For me, it is the growth of money that was lying fallow. There is so much work that money will do. In addition, if I keep up with my budgeting skill, I would be richer.

I will grow my family

I got married middle of this year. My husband and I love kids. We have not tried having any. Part of the reason is cos of the health challenges I have been battling with. The doctors have advised that my body needs time. My fertility specialist said January will be a good time to try. Well, fingers crossed.

I will go into serious talks about buying a house or renting a bigger space

One plus one equals two. Before now, I have never lived in lavish accommodation in Canada. Once my income goes up and I clear outstanding pressing debts and fund pressing projects, the next thing is to get into serious talks about housing. I had begun these talks two years ago. The realtor had told me of the importance of:

  • A good credit score
  • A full-time employment
  • A substantial down payment

Those 3 factors scream money to me. So we are back to the basics. Full-time employment should translate to regular income, which leads to paying off debts, which leads to affording a mortgage. Correct me if I am wrong.

Getting or not getting a Ph.D. offer

My sister and I meet regularly online. We discuss steps in preparation for a doctorate I intend to do in late 2022. There are so many steps involved and so the conversations have started already. If all goes well, I should know in spring 2022 if I will do a doctorate or not.

I will write my book

I began talks with a project manager and ghostwriter this week on writing and publishing my book. If all goes well, then you guys will read my book anytime from 2022 and beyond.

These are my realistic projections for 2022. What are yours?
