When You Work With Others
All Writers Profit
When I first began my writing career I learned early on the many benefits of writers having a relationship with each other based on cooperation.
- We learned from each other.
- We helped each other.
- We all benefited from the group effort.
Let me illustrate a couple of the many examples where working with other writers was beneficial.
As a beginning writer, I had an article I wrote accepted into a collection of essays called Mothers’ Miracles.
About a year later I received a call from the Senior Editor of Women’s Day asking if I would be willing to submit a photo and do some minor changes to that essay for publication in their magazine.
My resume at the time was too inexperienced for acceptance into a national magazine, but the published collaboration was my entry with their reaching out to me.
Later on with a more professional resume I was fortunate to connect with Donna Kozik.
I had attended her write an eBook in a weekend seminar, joining her mailing list. That’s how I learned of the Community Book Projects she was editing and publishing.
Not only did I connect to other writers working in the group, but my resume grew even more with my essays in her books Everyday Joy, Independence, and 20/20 Vision.
It was these books that had Viki Winterton reaching out to me to be part of an International Authors Journal called How Big Can You Dream?
I’ve only been active on Medium since February when as I was working to master the learning curve on a new-to-me platform I stumbled upon Sahil Patel and Reciprocal.
Writers helping writers drew me to this publication where I have made so many connections and have learned so much from reading and engaging with the writers in this publication.
Then in March Scot Butwell reached out to me to join a collaboration of writers here on Medium going on The Salt Path Journey together around the book by Raynor Winn.
To be honest I don’t even know how our connection started for him to ask me, but I am so appreciative to him that he did.
We’re only on Part One of the book and already I feel so connected to Scot Butwell , Evon , Janice Macdonald , Klara Jane Holloway , C.A. Jaymes , Michael L Butler , The Sober Vegan Yogi , Belcairn , Mary DeVries , and Jane Kelley
