PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
When the Darkness Takes Over
Week 68 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
The days just keep on getting shorter and with the missing sun, the darkness creeps into your life. I know that this is November weather but I didn’t realize how many days go by without seeing the sun.
I guess since I lived for so many years in the desert and warmer climates I experience the darkness and lack of sunshine even more intense now.
Today, friends of ours came to visit and we took them for a walk through the picturesque city of Miltenberg. We hiked up to the castle and further up the mountain behind the castle for more panoramic views.
I loved the view from the castle onto the valley and the river Main. The trees were reflecting perfectly in the seemingly still water. The shadows looked drawn onto the picture.
This was also the first day in the last seven days where we actually saw blue sky. We didn’t get to see the sun because she was already too low on the horizon disappearing behind the hills. But at least we got some bright, blue skies.

The following day we took our friends to the same game park we went to with my mom and grandma a few days ago. We decided to take a two-hour walk around the hill behind the park making it back to the car just before it got dark.
I was trying to get a nice shot of this fallow buck but it wasn’t looking at me. Luckily my husband, the former nature guide, had once again no trouble getting this guy's attention.

I do know Americans like their Christmas decorations and might go a little overboard with it sometimes (in my eyes at least). This is the simple presentation of German Christmas lights at our neighbor’s terrace. Very subtle and discreet.

Welcome to Germany. It’s November. This is how exciting our sky looks. Day in and day out. This picture could have been taken at 8 am, around lunchtime, or at 5 pm.

Another gray day in Germany. But instead of curling up on the couch, I decided to go for a walk in the drizzle. When I got to this picnic site a few memories came up from when my husband and I were sitting here in late summer.
It looks a bit different now, but the warm memories enlighten the scene.

This morning I got to see blue skies. Our valley was above the fog and we could see the sky for the first time in a very long time.
Driving down to the river Main, we went back into the fog. The warmth was rising from the water. Some fog was hovering above the city while the shoreline was covered in frost.

Last but not least we actually got to see a pretty sunset. Just past 4 pm. But hey. We got colors in the sky and they are not gray.

This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge in summer 2020 and many have participated ever since.
