When I Win, I Want…

Day 30 Preptober writing prompt challenge

Day 30: What is your prize for successfully completing NaNoWriMo?

Question from the Preptober 31 Day Challenge from the Character Collective.

Why reward myself?

Rewards can be a powerful motivator. I’ll be honest, they rarely motivate me personally. I’m more motivated by the delicious feeling I get when I am so deep into a book and my characters are wrapped about me so intensely that only my closest friend can tell the difference between me speaking, or my character.

But, for many, rewards are the difference that can make the difference. Even though I’m not as drawn to the reward aspect as a tangible thing, as some are, I still set myself reward goals because it’s a great excuse to give myself nice things — which I don’t do nearly as often as I deserve.

Knot That Hot reward

I feel like I’ve already thought about how will reward myself this NaNoWriMo, but now I’ve forgotten all of that. What was my prize for successfully completing NaNoWriMo? Oh, yes! We did a Preptober Challenge about treats and rewards. Let me just go back and see what I wrote for successful completion.

Right, here we go. So, I said in the day 15 Preptober writing prompt challenge, which I titled Rainbow Treats, that on completion of the book, I’m scoring a sensory deprivation tank experience. But wait. No, that was on completion of the book. On completion of NaNoWriMo, as in writing the 50,000 words and ‘winning; NaNo, I said that I would treat myself to something from my Amazon wishlist:

50k words — When I win NaNoWriMo, I’m going to treat myself with something from my Amazon Wishlist because that’s how I roll.

I had a look through my Amazon Wishlist and I really couldn’t make a decision. Instead, I’m going to see how I feel at the end of NaNoWriMo when I have won. Then, I will go back through my list and choose something. I would love to choose something now but I’m just not vibing it. Let’s put an amount on it though.

When I have won NaNoWriMo, I’m going to give myself a $100, let’s call it a gift voucher, to use on my Amazon wishlist (give or take $20).
