What’s a Passion in Your Life?
Answering a soul-searching question
I’m sure you want to discover your passion in life. Maybe you already know it, or perhaps you are still searching.
First, we must understand what passion is.
What is passion?
A passion is a strong and intense enthusiasm or excitement towards a particular activity, hobby, or interest. Passion makes you feel alive and gives you a sense of purpose, joy, and fulfilment.
So, one could have a passion for music, dance, writing, public speaking, teaching, arts, design, fashion etc. But how do we discover any passions in our lives?
The following points may be helpful:
1. Pay attention to what excites you
Think about the kind of activities that will excite us. My passion is related to music, teaching, public speaking or writing. These things make me happy, and when I do participate in them, it gives me some sense of fulfilment. What’s yours?
2. Reflect on your experience
You may have done something in the past which you enjoy over and over again. Is it the arts or dance or a song you can sing well? Or something else?
When you do that activity, you probably catch others’ attention and get compliments. Reflect on it. It may be close to your undiscovered passion.
3. Consider your values
All of us have a particular set of values in life. Often, without knowing, we are guided by them.
Do you know that our passion aligns with our values? Think about the things that are important to you. Your passion will have some connections to your values.
4. Reflect on your strengths
Each of us has unique strengths that will help us develop our passion. For example, music could be your passion if you have a sharp hearing for rhythms.
If you have a good judgement of colours, your passion could be related to art or design.
5. Get feedback from others
Talk with friends who know you well, and they may tell you your passions. Like a parent looking at their children, they probably guess what they are good at.
Sometimes, we cannot see what we are good at. It’s time to ask the people close to us.
In conclusion
Finding our passion could be a lifelong goal; we can use it to our advantage once we identify it. Maybe we can change our careers or do some part-time work on it. Perhaps we can do it as a hobby for relaxation and mental wellness.
I hope we will be more deliberate to keep searching for our passions.
