What Walking in the Rain Taught Me

Finding the abundance in a carpet of golden leaves

I mourned the loss of the summer light in so many ways. I had gotten used to waking up and walking outside before anything else. Being close to nature brings my soul such joy. Now that the darkness of fall is upon us, I no longer walk outdoors in the mornings. A beautiful raincoat given to me by a friend in our front closet changed everything. I found that with this coat, I could now walk outside in the afternoons, even in the rain. Nothing will keep me from nature, where I belong. The abundance of the leaves and the beauty of the raindrops keep my spirit nourished. I am on a 100-day journey. During this journey, I am exploring the book: The Tao of Abundance: Eight Ancient Principles for Abundant Living by Laurence G. Boldt.

A walk in the woods is a spiritual experience for any sensitive person. It energizes and harmonizes body, mind, and spirit. There is chi, life energy, in all living things. When you stand against or lie under a tree, you are exchanging energy with a living being. When you enter a forest, you are being touched on subtle levels by the life energies around you. -Laurence G. Boldt

I believe this is true. I find that whenever I am feeling strong emotions, I can hang on to our large maple tree or sit beneath it and feel at peace. I sense the energy of the trees, the leaves, the grass, and the rain on my daily walks in our back garden. All I ever need is abundant there. Nature brings me solace, time to think, and time to grow. I am grateful to have a little bit of nature right outside my door.

Today I bring you a poem about walking in the rain:

Golden leaves float down, Like gifts from the trees, Forming a glittering carpet, I walk in this wonderland of fall.

Raindrops patter upon my hood, Like abundant offerings, Forming a glistening crown, I walk in nature’s palace.

Branches sway in the breeze, Granting us twigs for our fire, Forming a cosy backdrop, I walk upon beauty outside.

Grass squishes beneath my feet, Creating comfort for my walk, Increasing my joy today, I walk to feel alive.

My prayer and my intention for you today is for you to slow down and experience the abundance of nature wherever you can. If it is in a potted plant out on a balcony, a stroll in a nearby park, or just looking at the window at the landscape, let it bring you peace.

Day #12: How can you find the abundance of nature today?
