WALKING ROUTE 66
What To Do When You Are Not Sure
Listen to your inner voice.

After having a short and boring day yesterday, today was anything but boring.
I was up before my 4 AM alarm went off and ready to hit the road by 5:30.
I had emailed David Freeze, whom I met in Chicago as he finished his bike ride from L.A., and I started my walk. Also, Jesse Martinez, about whom I learned from Dawn. He had walked Route 66 up to California border with his puppy, pushing a cart.
I received responses saying that while there was a lot of downhill walking, it wasn’t very steep. The plan was to get to Gray Summit and spend the night there. I bought some excellent organic grub for next to nothing at a c-store on my way there.
When I reached Gray Summit, there was nothing there that would serve as a nightspot. There was a Burger King and a 24-hour gas station about three miles down the road. It was only 2:30; I decided to head down the road. That turned out to be the best decision I’d made thus far.
At the edge of the town, as I turned toward my planned destination, I saw a sign across the street that read, “Shaw Nature Preserve.” There was a $5 entry fee, even if you were there to capture Pokeman.
Does anyone remember that craze? I had heard a Toastmasters speech before I left Houston, where the speaker talked about how the silly idea made Nintendo a profit to the tune of 9 Billion dollars. That’s right, with a B.
However, there was a disappointing notice that said the facility closed at 8 PM. Oh well. I was going to head out when the voice within said, why don’t you just check.
Never ignore what the voice of intuition tells you, so I went in. I explained my situation to the receptionist and gave her one of my flyers. She was new there and didn’t know the area well, but she will inquire about it if I don’t mind waiting. Sure, I can use the electric outlet to charge the phone, and here is a bottle of cold water, it looks like you could use it.
To make the long story short — and you can read all the details in the original blog post linked at the end of this story. The people at the Preserve went out of their way to accommodate me for the night, even bending some rules, and fixed one of the tires that went flat as I went deeper into Nature Preserve to reach the overnight center. They also unlocked the boys’ showers for me.
The surprises and delights never seem to cease, that’s for sure.
As I think back and ponder.
While I have always listened to my intuition, Walking Route 66 has sharpened my ability to tune into it mush more effectively. Now, it is only second nature for me.
Anita Moorjani, author of Dying to be me, who had a near-death experience while dealing with stage 4 cancer, says that we shouldn’t call it the sixth sense. We should call it the first sense because we are born knowing how to it; We learn to use the other five as we grow up.
If you are interested in learning more about intuition and how to use it, I highly recommend Practical Intuition by Laura Day. She has many useful exercises that help you trust your innate connection with the Universe.
Stay blessed and be happy, my friends.
Day 30: Wow! Simply Wow! (Original blog post)
Just for fun.
I couldn’t think of a song to go with today’s story, so what do I do? I listen to my intuition and search on YouTube. I like what I found.
