What People Really Want in a Casual Sex Partner

Hookups are not just about looks

If you have a celebrity crush, you would probably love the chance to hook up with them for a night or two — but that’s most likely not realistic. However, if you came across a celebrity lookalike, that may be enough to fulfill your fantasies.

At least, that’s what many of the 2,000 people who participated in a survey conducted by HUD App would do. In fact, more than half of them reported they would jump at the chance to hook up with someone who resembled their favorite celebrity.

And what else do they pay attention to when sizing someone up for a casual encounter? Short of looking like their favorite celebrity, survey respondents look for someone’s style (67 percent), smile (62 percent), body type (60 percent), eyes (59 percent), hair (43 percent), and voice (37 percent).

“Compatibility is key to making a meaningful connection with someone, whether it’s for a casual encounter or a dating relationship.”

But, contrary to popular belief, hookups aren’t necessarily about the physical. While 23 percent of people said they care about looks when hooking up, 49 percent believe looks and personality are equally important. Also, 77 percent of people said that sexual compatibility is important for a casual partner, and for 43 percent, it’s so important that they’re willing to leave a hookup session when the chemistry isn’t just right.

“Compatibility is key to making a meaningful connection with someone, whether it’s for a casual encounter or a dating relationship,” explained the dating app’s communications director Katie Wilson. “Be intentional about looking for someone you’re compatible with — your dating life will be better if you avoid time-wasters right from the start.”

But who said anything about dating?

They did.

Although they come for a hookup, many people (68 percent) leave with romantic feelings for their casual partners and about 66 percent wish they could start a relationship. This is probably why 18 percent of people avoid hooking up with someone more than once because they don’t want to deal with uncomfortable situations and unnecessary attachments.
