What I learned from Publishing 2 Articles a Day for 3 Weeks…
Successes and some interesting info…
A Blogger's Journey…
I have broken my chain and haven’t done my 10 articles this week. 😢😢😭🤷🏾♀️
Something happens when I start getting excited about something or start to see success. I kind of turn around and burn it all down.🔥
I nearly deleted everything. It’s definitely some kind of “DisORder”. But at least I finally recognize this problem so I can confront it. That’s a bit of progress, right?
And I’ve been seeing positive results from publishing 2 articles a day, namely:
1. Publications have started taking me more seriously.
I finally made it into Hello, Love. A publication I had tried for a few times in the past and never got into. Plus, I got my first article published with “Start-it-up” (GeekCulture) I’ve tried to get articles with them published in the past and was never able to.
2. I finally got my first article curated!
I’d been part of medium since roughly 2020 and took a break from this account for a few years while dealing with all the covid chaos around me. I had about 10–15 articles on this account. NONE of them got curated.
Then I return to Medium and hit the ground running. About 2 weeks in, with 10 new articles and BOOM! The article that made it into GeekCulture was also the one curated. I also got my first referral and subscriber that same day, I think!
I don’t know, the Lord God was TOUCHING my Medium account that day! Thank you, Father!
3. Of course, money and viewership went up
That’s to be expected now that I am putting out way more articles than I did before.
As I write this, it is March 11, 2022, so we are not even halfway into March yet. And I started writing on Medium again February 7, 2022.
So for the 4 weeks, I made about 20 dollars!

That’s better than when I started my account in 2020, where I would make a little under 10 dollars a month:

Medium is almost literally, “A penny for your thoughts”, but those pennies add up. So, forget being a perfectionist and only putting out 2 articles a week maybe.
At least 1 article a day. 2 if you really want to see some progress on Medium. It does work, so this little experiment has paid off. 😁
BONUS KNOWLEDGE
In less than a month, I’ve been published in some difficult publications, like “Start-it-Up/GeekCulture”, and “Hello, Love”
I’ve also made it into P.S. I Hate You, ILLUMINATION, Interfaith Now, Open Letters To, Writers’ Blokke.
What’s interesting to me about this is learning what works and what doesn’t work for different pubs.
For instance, with ILLUMINATION, my stories with a religious slant do poorly. But articles that are really simple, short or slightly comical do well.
With Illumination. Published about 2 weeks ago. Only about 11 views.
With Illumination. Published about 1 week ago. 35 views.
These two articles talk about relationships and men, and are both on the shorter side. The difference in views could be due to many factors, but I see this same trend with other articles.
However, all faith is not lost. On Interfaith Now, my spiritual/religious stories do well. Better than most of my stories on any other publication, with the exception of Hello, Love because their audience is HUGE.
And one of the stories that’s doing really well is a story I had little faith in. I hardly even marketed this article. I posted it like ONCE on Facebook. Yet it’s doing better than most of my other stories.
I pretty much wrote this for myself, and am delighted to see others find it interesting:
Not only are my religious stories doing well on Interfaith Now but they are also making good money…

Compared to an article doing almost as well on ILLUMINATION:

At first, I was confused why an article with 33 views made significantly less than an article with only a little bit more views at 40.
Then I realize it is probably due to reading times. The folks subscribed to Interfaith Now want to read articles on religion and spirituality, so they are likely to spend more time on my article than the folks subscribed to ILLUMINATION, where pretty much anything goes and it’s a mixed bag of topics they publish.
In conclusion, I’m happy with how things are going. I think I’ve found my “niche” with my bible based articles. And it’s better to send your niche articles to a publication that caters to your niche, rather than a more “anything goes” publication.
My spiritual articles get more reads and much better read times when sent to a publication that caters to spiritual articles, because that audience is more likely to be interested in what I have to say.
Producing 2 articles every weekday, if possible, reaps rewards.
Publications take you more seriously, you are more likely to get curated, and you will build your business and make money much faster that way.
However, I probably won’t be doing 2 articles a week any longer. Not for a while anyway.
The thing is, I’m a single mom about to be an empty nester. I came back to Medium because I knew I needed something to occupy my time for when my son went away to college.
Producing 2 good (not perfect) articles a day is time consuming and exhausting. 😮💨 Then you have to market them, edit them, and it’s just a lot of work.
Also, I want to start writing fiction. That’s going to take up a lot of time too.
So I figure I wait till my son goes to college to start power publishing articles.😁 I want to enjoy the last little bit of time I have with him before he’s out in the world crushing adult life
So well, see. But for newer writers or those on the fence with writing 1–2 articles a day. It’s about your goals on Medium.
If you’re really trying to make money, go for it. If you like to have a blog to express yourself and don’t care much about the money, post whenever the mood hits you.
For me? I sure do like money 😝🤑 But I am willing to build a little slower. My son will go off for college and I’ll be alone to either face the reality of being alone for the first time in nearly 20 years or throw myself completely into blogging. 😁
Sounds like a decent plan!
So I'll see how it goes as I get things rolling…
