Summary

The article discusses the severity of the fallen angels' punishment in comparison to Adam and Eve's, as depicted in The Book of Enoch and other texts, attributing the harsher penalty to the angels' knowledge of good and evil and their subsequent actions on Earth.

Abstract

The text delves into the reasons behind the seemingly harsher punishment inflicted upon the fallen angels compared to the punishment of Adam and Eve after their respective falls. It suggests that while Adam and Eve's transgression was a result of ignorance, having not yet gained knowledge of good and evil, the fallen angels willfully disobeyed, fully aware of the moral implications. Their actions, which included procreating with human women to create the Nephilim and teaching humanity various forbidden arts, led to widespread corruption and violence on Earth, prompting God to send the Great Flood as a means of resetting creation. The article also references the Archangel Michael's reaction to the severity of the angels' judgement and the bet made by the fallen angels, which they ultimately lost, as factors contributing to their dire fate. The author reflects on the moral lessons derived from this narrative, emphasizing the importance of understanding the complexities of human nature and the consequences of judging others.

Opinions

  • The author implies that the fallen angels' punishment was justified due to their full awareness of right and wrong, unlike Adam and Eve who were innocent of such knowledge.
  • There is an opinion that the fallen angels' actions were a direct affront to God's order, as they not only disobeyed but also mocked the human capacity to follow divine commandments.
  • The article suggests that the fallen angels' confidence in their ability to resist temptation in fleshly form was misplaced, leading to their downfall and a punishment so severe it caused the Archangel Michael to tremble.
  • The author speculates that the fallen angels' wager with God, where they bet they could do better than humans, was a contributing factor to their harsh punishment.
  • The narrative is seen as a cautionary tale against judging others, as the fallen angels were judged harshly for underestimating the challenges of human existence.
  • The author humorously advises against engaging in sexual relations with otherworldly beings, alluding to modern-day accounts and the ancient narrative as cautionary examples.

The Book of Enoch: Why was The Fallen Angels Fall Worse than Adam and Eve’s?

If Adam and Eve “Fell” that means they fell from somewhere either high above or another dimension into our own dimension. This coincides with my suspicion that the Garden of Eden was in some kind of dream world on our earth.

So Adam and Eve fell much like the fallen angels fell. However, according to The Book of Enoch, God's punishment for the fallen angels seems severe compared to the punishment for Adam and Eve.

And it’s not just my frail human heart that says so, apparently, even the Great Archangel Michael trembled at the thought of it:

LXVIII. Michael and Raphael astonished at the Severity of the Judgement.

CHAPTER LXVIII.

2. And on that day Michael answered Raphael and said: ‘The power of the spirit transports and makes me to tremble because of the severity of the judgement of the secrets, the judgement of the angels: who can endure the severe judgement which has been executed, and before which they melt away?’ 3. And Michael answered again, and said to Raphael: ‘Who is he whose heart is not softened concerning it, and whose reins are not troubled by this word of judgement (that) has gone forth upon them because of those who have thus led them out?’

4. And it came to pass when he stood before the Lord of Spirits, Michael said thus to Raphael: ‘I will not take their part under the eye of the Lord; for the Lord of Spirits has been angry with them because they do as if they were the Lord. Therefore all that is hidden shall come upon them for ever and ever; for neither angel nor man shall have his portion (in it), but alone they have received their judgement for ever and ever.’

There is a part of the angel's punishment hidden and not disclosed to humans (as far as I know), but part of their punishment was they were to be sent to hell for all eternity. And it was no fun time for the angels down there. It’s the kind of horror movie hell most of us think about when we think about hell, maximized.

We know what Adam and Eve did to fall, but to recap what the fallen angels did. According to the Book of Enoch, the sons of God (Angels) came to earth and got hot for the daughters of man (us human women) and started taking the human women as wives and making babies with them. One race of these human/angel hybrids was called Nephilim.

God was not pleased with this. Not only did the fallen angels start populating the earth with these Nephilim giants, who were blood thirsty beings that ate humans, but they also taught humankind a lot of evils. Like how to fashion weapons for warring and fighting, witchcraft, and something that may be interpreted as teaching humans martial arts and how to perform abortions (Enoch 69:6, Enoch 69:12).

Not only were the fallen angels punished to hell, but this is the reason God sent the flood that destroyed most of the earth. God was trying to get rid of the children of the fallen angels and reset the world he’d created

I guess I can understand the flood, but I always wondered why the fallen angels weren’t allowed to repent somehow.

Then someone left a comment on my article entitled Eve wasn’t a Feminist, she was a ‘Cool Girl’ that got my imagination running. So let's talk about it

The comment left was talking about how Adam and Eve at the time of eating the fruit didn’t know good from evil, because the forbidden fruit came from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

That was a good point, and as I thought about it, it occurred to me that this is why God punished the angels worse than Adam and Eve.

When God punished Adam and Eve, it wasn’t because they had done something evil, they didn’t even know what evil was until they actually ate the fruit. God punished Adam and Eve because they didn’t follow orders. A bad offense, but not EVIL because they didn’t know what evil was at the time.

The fallen angels however knew good from evil. They lived in paradise with God and had access to (most of) the secrets of heaven and earth. Secrets we humans still have little access to.

Another thing is I read in the Ethiopian Bible story The Kebra Nagast that the fallen angels actually mocked Adam and Eve, asking God why he doesn’t destroy the humans who couldn’t follow such simple directions.

God took up for humans, explaining to the angels that it’s not easy to be flesh. The fallen ones felt they could do way better at being flesh than the humans could.

So, God took them up on that wager and sent them to earth to be flesh. It didn’t take long for the fallen angels to corrupt the earth, thus losing the bet. My guess is that factored into the decision too.

Either way I’m no one to question the Lord God too much on his business but I admit I was curious about that. It was a punishment so harsh it made Michael Tremble after all.

Moral of the story? Well for me, don’t make bets with God 😓 Also this story reinforces what Jesus said about not judging others least ye be judged. If the Kebra Nagast is right, these fallen angels fell for not understanding the difficulties of being flesh and feeling they could do better than us. This bet did not go well for them, and I recon, few bets against God could.

Also, it’s probably not a good idea to have sex with angels, ghosts, demons, or paranormal, ethereal beings of any kind. You would think this wasn’t a thing, but yeah, it’s kind of a thing
