What Has 2022 Taught You?
It’s boggling to believe that 2023 is a breath away but have we learned anything?
What has this year taught you?
Closing the door on another year brings about questions for reflection. Maybe you’d rather bid 2022 good riddance and look forward in anticipation of all the possibilities 2023 may bring.
Do you feel a little beat up by the world this year, either mentally, emotionally, spiritually, or financially? How many rounds can we go and still walk away with enough integrity to still look like our authentic selves while avoiding violence at all costs?
The good ol’ days have gone.
I long for the days before having to sit in my car in prayer mode before getting the courage to walk into the grocery store, shopping mall, movie theater, museum, or my kids’ schools.
My kids can now recite my worst-case scenario speech every time I drop them off at a public event. They know my questions and are deliberate in their answers and details. It’s devastating; this is part of their generation’s legacy, the harm the world has bestowed on them.
How sick am I?
My head spins with possible medical decisions because they’re no longer choices, even with insurance. Has my deductible been met yet? Otherwise, I need to push that needed appointment or test till next year or save up for it instead of getting care first.
Do I stay or do I go now?
How many of you have opted to still Livestream their church services? Do you long for worshipping with others but notice more people labeling themselves religious but following Earthly people and things over God’s Word and His Love teachings first?
When the spiritual landscape looks so vastly different, don’t put your primary focus on Earth. Raise your gaze higher!
Mental health matters.
How about good ol’ mental health? I know mine’s taken some heavy hits for sure. Every other day feels like a personal health day is due.
You are with yourself every day, 24 hours a day. I firmly believe in any form of therapy to enhance every feel-good thought or moment we can experience in this life.
Last week, I went to an old arcade with games from my childhood. It was just what my mind needed to release stress, feel an innocent and simple thrill, and bring up fun childhood memories. Not every therapy is one size fits all or inexpensive. Still, community centers, local YMCAs, and churches have many available resources. You also have various choices based on your life interests, experiences, and goals.
2023
Ok, 2023, the bar is set pretty low because it won’t be hard to beat 2022, and we all need a win, wouldn’t you say?! Cheers! Here’s to hoping.
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Suppose I want to be doing something different and better for my life for several reasons. In that case, I will take steps in that direction or do it in every attempt to the best of my ability today. Don’t wait till New Year’s Day or start over every Monday when we screw up.
We all fall or falter, and it’s ok. If it’s important to you and your well-being, a step at a time will still get you there.
I pray for all humanity for safety, fulfillment, hope, love, and infinite possibilities in the New Year but, most importantly, today.
