What Do the Experts Say About Creating the BEST Bios and “About” Pages?
Get valuable tips and writing advice from the pros in the Creators Hub!

Have you been paying attention to some of the motivational stories being shared in the community this year?
If you have, then you know that I’ve written quite a few of them myself.
Among them are these four that I shared about Medium’s Creators Hub.
Why read about the Creators Hub?
Since having just discovered some of the available benefits that they provide; I’ve been singing their praises to other writers, and rightfully so.
I’m thrilled to have finally found out what a useful resource they are for writers on Medium, but what’s even better, is that they’re the “official” Medium resource.
That means that when you read something that was written or co-signed by the Creators Hub, you know you can rely on it to be true and according to Medium’s standards.
What’s more, you can also count on the information to be effective — as in valuable enough for you to use it and even pass it on.
That’s what I’m doing with the following information about how to create effective Bios, Profiles, and About pages.
Notice the following suggestions they offer…
Short bios that work best
According to the experts on Creators Hub, the bios that perform more efficiently, are the ones that provide sufficient details.
Those details should contain some type of information to help readers know something about who you are, and what kind of stories you write. They sat that you can even share:
“…some of your most salient credentials.”
Of course, this is tricky to do, and will take some finessing, since you aren’t given that much space to work with for your bio description.
But that’s not the case with our “About” page.
Notice what the Medium experts have to say about that.
Your About Page is a useful tool
The Creators Hub writers want us to recognize what a wonderful tool we have in our “About” page.
They describe it as an effective way for writers on Medium to ‘build credibility’, and encourage us to use it without any reservations.
In fact, their exact words were: “…don’t be coy.”
These smart writers make a very valid point, when they say that readers shouldn’t have to wonder about the validity of the things we write.
Such as:
“…why they should listen to your theories about crypto, or whatever you write about…”
Any writer who reads this, should readily be able to relate to the logic of these words.
They should help you easily understand why it’s important to add useful content to your Bio, and About page.
Why would — or should — a reader be expected to read a story, let alone follow through on any advice given, when a writer’s profile is vague, and possibly doesn’t even have an image?
To learn more about customizing your About page and a few other related suggestions, the Creators Hub is definitely the place to go.
Final Thoughts
One thing about the Medium community of writers, is that you can always count on new members to join and start coloring outside the lines right away.
This is a huge mistake, not because writers shouldn’t be original, unique, and authentic, because they should.
But coloring outside the lines, as in thumbing your nose at the rules, is not a good thing — and most especially not when you’re just getting started.
That is why you’re better off, paying attention to the experts, and other more knowledgeable Medium writers.
This point is emphasized in a different way, in my must read story about creating better story titles.
Why All the FUSS About Creating A Good Story Title?
This story talks about one of the main areas that new members and inexperienced writers tend to color outside the lines.
But when you listen to the advice of those who are getting successful results, it is doubtful that you’ll end up going wrong.
Do this at the beginning of your Medium journey, and you’ll be a lot more successful in the community.
