Summary

The article discusses the concept of "false gods," which are metaphorical entities representing our fears, limitations, and misguided values, and emphasizes the importance of recognizing and overcoming these negative forces to achieve a life of abundance and truth.

Abstract

The article "We’re All Worshiping False Gods" by Ernest Holmes delves into the human tendency to idolize and be controlled by negative thoughts and beliefs, such as fear, scarcity, and the pursuit of material wealth. We’re All Worshiping False Gods

“Some of these gods we call evil, lack, limitation, pain, death. These false gods must be deserted for there is but One, which is Truth’s Self” Ernest Holmes

We’ve all heard the saying, don’t worship false gods.

I have always taken that to mean God in the religious sense, but there are other meanings too.

God can refer to anything we “worship” in our lives.

The term worship can also apply to the idea of thinking and focusing on something.

What do we spend our time doing and thinking about?

I have had issues my whole life with scarcity and fear.

I’m always worried I’m not good enough, don’t have enough money or power.

These fears of lack and limitation have become Gods that control my life.

I want to be rich, happy, and successful, but I’m not. That is because I focus on what I don’t have and what I want, allowing those desires to control me.

These thoughts are negative and keep me stuck.

What we focus on expands, so if we look at the negative and complain about what we don’t like, we get more of it.

We need to remove these false Gods from our lives.

The first step is realizing they’re there.

When we become aware of these habitual thoughts that control us, we’re able to see the truth.

These thoughts are fake, these false Gods have infiltrated our lives, now we worship them, giving them power.

The next question becomes, what is the truth? If the thoughts we’ve been believing aren’t real then what is?

Abundance.

When we look to nature we see a circle of life that has been turning for millions of years and will continue to turn long after humans make ourselves extinct.

There are cycles of birth and death, sun and rain, predators and prey.

All of them play their part, living their lives in unison with nature. This way of life is sustainable because they take what they need and contribute something to the cycle of life.

Humans had disrupted this cycle with our never-ending greed and selfishness.

These ideas of conquering new lands, making more money, and building the biggest building are all false gods.

Our greed and selfishness have caused us to lose sight of reality and instead focus on the false Gods of greed and fear and envy.

When we become aware of these limiting thoughts, we can begin removing them.

When we think “I am”, we begin to believe it.

When I tell myself I can’t do the things I want in life because I’m broke, I’m identifying with this limiting mindset.

These limiting thoughts can come in any form and have been with us for a long time.

I have only begun to question these false beliefs I’ve held for years.

Although my physical world hasn’t changed, I am happier and more optimistic about life.

It’s only a matter of time before I see results.

So the biggest thing I can leave you with is: It takes time to remove these false Gods from our lives, so start today.

Freedom and liberation are waiting for you.
