Two Steps To Build Strength And Happiness
“Hence arises a pleasure mixed with awe… that, whilst the world is a spectacle, something in himself is stable.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
I want to stand strong against the raging currents of life. Pain, fear, and confusion come at us from every angle, from inside and out.
How do we remain calm and stable when the world gets crazy?
I have been on a journey of self-discovery, yet I often notice myself getting upset or judging others for what they are doing. The more important issues are the ones happening in my head.
The things I see and get upset about may or may not have anything to do with me, yet I still get mad.
Why? It’s so silly for me to waste my time worrying about something that doesn’t affect me.
The reason is that it’s easier to point the finger at others than it is to criticize ourselves.
This is where all of our issues arise, from within.
We all have weaknesses and shortcomings the more we try to deny this fact the harder our lives become.
By not being honest with ourselves and thinking about our actions, we do things based on emotion.
When our emotions are in control we are not.
When we run from the truth about ourselves, we look for excuses or other people to blame, because nothing could ever be our fault.
This type of thinking leads us to judge and criticize others while being completely unaware of our own actions.
If everyone were to stop and think about themselves and their lives and reflect on who they are, and what they do, the world would be a better place.
Since I live in reality I know this will never happen. The only thing we can do is prepare ourselves and build the strength needed to face modern life.
Self-reflection is the first step.
When we have a goal and work towards it, amazing things can happen.
However, if we don’t know who we are or where we’re going we spin in circles. Ask yourself things like what do I believe? What do I want to give to the world? What do I want my legacy to be? How do I want to interact with the world, how do I present myself?
The full list of questions we could ask ourselves is endless, the point is to start somewhere.
The second very important factor is having confidence and belief in ourselves.
Admittedly, I am still working on this.
I have committed to writing earlier this year. Although it hasn’t paid off yet I going to keep going.
It’s scary, the money I had saved is running low, the thought of giving up and getting a job sounds safe and secure, but I know it’s a jail cell.
I have to have the mental strength to keep learning and working to get better and not let fears of failure stop me.
Self-awareness helps build self-confidence, both of which are important for us to grow as people and live more fulfilling lives.
The amount of time and energy needed to understand ourselves is enormous.
It’ll take an entire lifetime to figure out.
