Welcome, New Writers!
You were handpicked by the co-editor, Quaisha A. Thornton of the former New Writers Growth Ideas publication to join this brand new publication as a writer. You have been given access to submit your stories. I thank you for joining my new venture.
Why you are here
You are probably wondering why you are here. I briefly explained my reasons for starting The Wrte Stuff in my introduction story.
You are here because you are one of the writers that I loved reading and felt you had the content I wanted to share for my own publication since New Writers Growth Ideas doesn’t seem to be coming back. I didn’t find it fair that all this talent and resource should be left to the abyss.
Now you all are here. This pub is managed by Quaisha A. Thornton. It’s great to have you, and I look forward to reading, reviewing, publishing, engaging with, and promoting your stories.
Who We Are
The Wrte Stuff publication was born on October 24, 2023, on Medium.com.
Our purpose is to show that writing and creating can be challenging but also rewarding. That’s why you need the right stuff. Its a publication that provides inspiration, guidance, and resources for writers and creators. No matter what stage you are in your writing process, we have the right stuff to help you overcome obstacles and unleash your potential.
We want to give a voice and resources to a large number of diverse and inclusive communities of ethical writers.
You are added, now what?
Within the next few days, I will invite the first wave of our new writers to a Slack workspace, a free and moderated collaboration platform. I will create a contact form for you to add your name, Medium ID, and email so that I can add you to the Slack. I will announce this creation in a later post, in addition to a quick guide on how to use the platform.
For now, new writers need to review our submissions guide and our onboarding guide (coming soon), which contain all the information needed to get started. This guide will be similar to the guide I created for New Writers Growth Ideas.
We will want writers to focus on creating quality content over quantity. This means we will accept only one high-quality story per day from contributors.
Why will stories get returned?
Some stories are rejected because of these main reasons:
- Goes against submission guidelines
- Rough draft, not formatted at all
- too many language errors
- no captions on images
- used copyright images
I will send a private message explaining why I have sent It back. The message icon, a star (*) sign, appears at the top right side of the story. Click to open and view and reply to message. It can be resubmitted if all errors are fixed.
Our Policy on AI-generated content
We do accept AI-generated text and photos. As long as there’s a disclaimer that the text includes AI-generated text or caption photos using generated AI appropriately. Our submission guidelines explain this in more detail.
Quick Guide
- You can submit a draft or a published story to the publication. Both have different results in terms of visibility. We prefer that you submit a draft because its easier to edit.
- Use copyright-free images and caption them.
- Join the Slack to chat with the editors and other writers from the pub, address concerns about your work, promote your work, and learn from specific resources from experts.
- There’s 1 main editor; therefore, the wait time for publishing articles is 2–3 days max, 12–24 hours minimum. My current schedule allows for me to publish 6–8 articles a day for the pub.
- Please review the onboarding guide for the list of topics covered.
- We do not publish every single story. We publish well-written and valuable content for our readers
- We follow Medium rules on plagiarism, defamation, discrimination, and hate speech.
- If you are using affiliate links, please add a disclaimer to your story.
