Publication Submission Guidelines
The Wrte Stuff: Submission Guidelines 2023 [Updated Dec 2023]
Knowing what to do and how to submit your stories for our new publication

Hello and welcome, new and seasoned writers, authors, and bloggers! We thank you for joining this publication and sharing with us your unique, colorful, insightful, and rewarding stories.
Before submitting your stories to the publication, please read this article in full and read our updated onboarding guide. Click here to apply to become a writer or editor.
The Wrte Stuff publication was created in October 2023. The day after, the first wave of 25 writers was added. They were all writers for the former publication New Writers Growth of Ideas on Medium. We wanted writers of that publication to have a place to go to continue sharing their content, gain traction to build a following, be part of a growing community, and become better writers.
We started with one wave of writers due to being limited to having one editor. Therefore, we will outline here everything you need to know to get started with writing for our publication.
How do you submit a story to our publication?
Our publication is listed on your list of publications to send your story to when you are in draft mode or preview mode of your story, in the settings. Select our publication to send your draft, and then hit publish. We prefer you submit drafts rather than published stories, but we will accept published stories.
What topics do we cover?
- Emotional Intelligence
- Spirituality
- Writing (Writers on writing) and writing tips

Stories will be rejected if they don’t meet the list of topics.
What gets published?
Using Medium’s new focus on driving quality stories over quantity, we will be publishing 1 draft or published article per day (per 24 hours) from contributors. If you submit more than one within a 24-hour period, we will take into account the first one.
We focus on engaging headlines and subheadlines, unique images, and intriguing or informative stories. These guidelines are very important, and we cannot compromise on them. We will curate a list of resources that includes a checklist for writing a great story for publication.
All submissions must include at least one photo. These photos must be copyright-free (includes stock photos paid or free) (and we accept original AI-generated images) and have a clear caption for the image source. I have encountered drafts with photos that have blank captions. If the photo belongs to you (or you made it using an AI tool) , please add the text “Photo by Author” (include the AI tool you used as well). Moving forward, we accept photos from free stock sites like unsplash.com, pixabay.com and pexels.com. This helps us verify the copyright of photos. Its very important.
“Upon analyzing the statistics, we observed that writers who posted too many stories resulted in lower views, reading times, and income.
Further analysis revealed that high-quality stories, supported and boosted by Medium, attracted significantly more visibility and engagement. So, the pattern became crystal clear.” — Illumination, Illumination’s Mirror: Submission Guidelines 2023.
What doesn’t get published?
Some stories are rejected because of these main reasons:
- Goes against submission guidelines
- Rough draft, not formatted at all
- too many language errors
- no captions on images
- used copyright images
I will send a private message explaining why I have sent it back. The message icon, a star (*) sign, appears at the top right side of the sentence highlighted in a story. Usually it would be the first sentence after the titles. Click to open, view, and reply to the message. It can be resubmitted if all errors are fixed. If this process does not work, I can send a message to you via Slack.
We don’t publish clickbait headlines, plagerized content, discrimination, hate speech, or unfiltered AI-generated content.
Acceptable AI-generated Content
We accept AI-generated images and text with disclaimers and clearly outlined guidelines. The first publication to not only accept AI-generated content but dedicate an entire publication to it is Illumination’s The Lampshade. They have developed a wonderful policy and set of guidelines for the use of AI-generated content. I will recommend reading their policy, as we will adapt this same policy for use with our publication. Please read here below:
Does my story have to stay with the publication?
Feel free to remove your stories from The Wrte Stuff whenever you need and want to. We don’t penalize you for withdrawing your articles to publish in other publications. We want you to grow.
What happens when my draft is in review?
If your draft is still in review, it means its in the queue or being currently reviewed. If there are issues with the draft, it will include a note on how to edit and re-submit. (I am still learning the editing abilities, so please bear with me.)
How can we get in contact with the editors?
You can respond to the PM or notes or attach a private note or message to one of my articles. I am also available on me.dm, Slack, Telegram and Facebook Messenger.
You can also find me on social media sites like X, Instagram, Threads, Facebook and Linkedin.
