Summary

Ai-Ai-OH is a publication seeking submissions that offer critical, humorous, and insightful perspectives on artificial intelligence, emphasizing its flaws and societal implications rather than blind promotion.

Abstract

Ai-Ai-OH is a new publication that aims to blend artificial intelligence perspectives with a touch of sass. It is actively seeking contributions from writers who can provide stories about AI's failures, biases, dangers, and limitations, rather than pieces that simply promote the latest AI tools. The publication encourages well-crafted, unpublished drafts that are both informative and entertaining, with a preference for speculative fiction, satire, and articles that include a human element in their narrative. The ideal length for submissions is between 750 to 1,500 words, with a minimum reading time of three minutes. The publication is not interested in technical deep dives or content that resembles the output of AI like ChatGPT. Instead, it welcomes articles that make light of AI's advancements and provide a platform for humans to express their frustrations and make fun of AI's shortcomings. Ai-Ai-OH is part of Medium's Boost nomination program, indicating a commitment to high-quality, insightful pieces that require minimal AI editing.

Opinions

  • The publication values human-centric storytelling over AI-generated content, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a human narrative in the face of advancing technology.
  • There is a clear preference for articles that are critical and humorous, highlighting the absurdity and failures of AI, rather than those that blindly praise its capabilities.
  • The editors are looking for original, previously unpublished content that provides a fresh take on the AI space, steering clear of rehashed or slightly modified stories.
  • The publication acknowledges the prevalence of AI in mainstream media and aims to offer a lighter, more skeptical look at the technology's impact on society.
  • Ai-Ai-OH encourages the inclusion of AI-generated elements in submissions but insists that these elements be accompanied by human context and insight.
  • The editors are open to speculative fiction and satirical pieces, demonstrating a desire for creative and entertaining explorations of AI themes.
  • The publication is positioned as a safe space for humans to collectively address the challenges and emerging threats posed by AI, including its influence on art and copyright issues.
  • The editor(s) are committed to providing feedback to submissions, though there may be a delay in response due to the volume of content and the current size of the editorial team.

Welcome to Ai-Ai-OH!

Write for our new publication that blends artificial intelligence perspectives with real sass. *now with boost!

Here’s a quick summary of what we’re looking for from writers!

  • WE WANT Stories about Ai fails, biases, dangers, and weaknesses of the newest tools. WE ARE NOT LOOKING for stories that blindly promote the newest Ai tools, or how it has helped you make $5,000.
  • We’re looking for well-crafted, insightful, even funny drafts that have previously been unpublished on Medium. (I don’t want your old stories that have been “tweaked”.)
  • Stories should be informative, but with entertainment also in mind. Our goal is not to “destroy” Ai, but to keep humans informed about what to watch out for.
  • Speculative fiction is welcome. Here’s an excellent example of a story we’ve already published.
  • We are not a deep-dive tech pub. That means we’re not interested in detailed coding guides that only a few will understand—we’re more about commentary.
  • Stories can be satirical/humorous in nature. Funny experiments with Ai are generally accepted (see main article for sample)
  • Articles should be about 750–1,500 words (minimum 3 min. read)
  • Use subheads where appropriate, including under main title
  • Use short, punchy sentences, 2–3 per paragraph. We don’t want large, boring blocks of text that ChatGPT produces
  • Ai images/text/media can be included in your human story, but please let readers know that in the captions.
  • If you want to write for Ai-Ai-OH (or have interest in editing for us), drop your handle in the comments (and a sample of your related work if you have one!)

Lately, we have been inundated with news about artificial intelligence, and for good reason. The technology that quietly snuck up on us has now flooded mainstream media.

Whether it’s generating convincing images or even fake news articles with a simple prompt, it’s hard to ignore how far the AI space has developed in a short time. These AI creations are becoming harder to spot, but we see you, robots.

However, while the stories about AI are largely about how robot brains will soon take over the world (they have already stole many of my writing clients), we needn’t let them give us nightmares.

We still control the narrative about artificial intelligence. Humans are still at the helm, at least for now.

What we needed, in my opinion, is a lighter look at the artificial intelligence world. In other words, we needed a place where humans could vent their frustrations about these advancing neural networks, and make fun of them. (Don’t worry, you’re not going to hurt an algorithm’s feelings.)

For example, check out this sample article from me, the first in the publication:

As you can see, you can incorporate AI generated elements into your submissions. But for the love of all that’s real, please don’t let AI create the entire piece. We want some human context here.

Medium already has a number of publications dedicated to the AI/tech space, and they’re useful to stay on top of the latest tools and trends. I have also written a lot about the scene, including how to spot generated images.

However, this publication will be a little different from those. It’s a safe space for humans to point out the absurdity of AI, and its failures.

It is a place to post funny experiments, epic AI fails, and emerging threats that we can collectively complain about, and strategize against. (Like how artists are now “poisoning” their work in order to avoid being copied.)

Basically, we will be accepting pieces that have some insight into the newest AI tools, but with some kind of nihilistic/humorous twist. I want writers to have fun with this. I want to read entertaining takes on the AI space, and how we can stay a step ahead of the robots.

We are not in servitude to the machines here — rather they are standing humbly in front of us, bowing to their human overlords (as they should!)

If you’re interested in writing for us, drop your handle in the comments below! Let’s give those machines something not to laugh or cry about.

Added note: It may take me a few days to get to your submission. Right now, we have just one editor (post in the comments if you have interest in editing this pub.) The editor(s) will let you know if we don’t plan to use your piece, and why.

*Yes, you may have noticed that Ai-Ai-OH is now part of the Boost nomination program. That means I’ll be looking for well-crafted, insightful pieces on Ai that don’t require me to use Ai editing to fix them.
