Weekly Wisdom from Karen

Fiction and writing fiction, sci-fi, and fairy tales hold court this week.

This week’s weekly wisdom, for your pleasure, is focused on fiction. According to ILLUMINATION reader requests to the founder, there is a keen appetite for it.

I’m a big fan of sci-fi. From Star Trek on TV when I was a kid in the seventies, to the 1984 Terminator film which I queued round the block for in my late teens. And all the others that followed.

Lee Nourse’s character, while expertly drawn, lacks sagacity in this excellent microfiction.

Mr.M (Muthu Raja)’s erudition has enabled us to share his experience. He includes a step by step breakdown and also breaks the 250-word story down into the corresponding parts. I might try it out.

This next sci-fi story from Julian Garcia is a pretty scary future from a privacy point of view. I’m not sure whether it’s utopian or dystopian. What do you think?

Earnest Painter’s Much-Needed Comfort Food piqued my interest because I have been indulging in pastries and pizza this weekend. Big yum. Subtle is the adjective I’d use for this story.

This simple sci-fi story by Vuk Ivanovic has an unexpected twist! Nice one, Vuk.

I saved the fairy tale for last. A story about an evil queen and magic is is my kind of fiction. Tessa Andrews does a superb job of setting the scene right from the start and the tale plays out … you’ll have to read for yourself. I wouldn’t want to spoil the ending.

Let me know what type of genre or which ILLUMINATION tag you’d like to read here next week. I’ll do my best to oblige.

Publication of the Week

ILLUMINATION’s sharing philosophy for members who write for it promotes its writer’s publications.

Dad-Bods

The chosen publication this week is that of a/the Top Writer in Satire and Humour (or humor if you are American), Charles Roast. I’m glad to hear he’s getting back into shape.

I adore fairy tales, I have read them since I started to read. Here’s one of mine.
