Weekend Musings in ILLUMINATION — Where to find YOUR North Star?

Many of us hate this question.

“What do you want to do in Life?”

In truth, not many of us know what we want to do in life.

It just is.

Everyone was born with a unique talent that defines them. That’s what everyone else says. Some people have gifts in mathematics. Some, in pottery. Others in wrestling.

While there might be others who excel in General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, that doesn’t necessarily apply to us. We can excel in the academics of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, that doesn’t mean we are the next Issac Newton in the making. Our unique talent is specific to us and it should help us discover a career best suited to our liking and preferences.

Take note — I do mean, it should.

A talent is conventionally defined as skill-set or way of thinking that we can acquire and apply with ease. That means we think and do things in that way and therefore we are a natural fit to this career. Our natural talent distinguishes us from the pack in this crazy and noisy World. Presumably, it provides a gentler learning curve for our career development.

All that can be beautiful talk.

Most of us grapple with the “How”.

“Just how do we find our unique, natural talent so we can do what we are good at and do what we love?”

First thing.

Do not feel discouraged because we have not figured ourselves out. Most people haven’t and most importantly, they start their careers at a later stage of their lives.

I believe genuinely that seeds of hidden talents are born into us. Some people’s seeds germinate and blossom at a very young age where they discover their potential rather quickly. We can see this in the arena of Sports. Champions start young.

They are able to walk that path because the conditions for the seeds to germinate can be found around them when they are young. Kids are placed into the education system which scouts for athletic talents. This is where talent meets conditions.

For others — Their talent might be nurturing below the surface and pretty simply, just waiting for the right conditions to come along so they can thrive.

Then there is the other group — Those are who in desperate quiet need to find out who they are and what they are passionate in. For those, I say this — We have to look for clues within us.

These are some guiding questions I found useful during my growing up years.

“What are the things that come so easy to us that we do not need large amounts of thinking?”

“What do people compliment us for?”

“What do you enjoy doing so much so that we lose track of time?”

“What do we find easy to do yet extremely difficult for others to do the same?”

We can start here.

We can start journaling daily.

In fact, amazing things happen when we start extracting our thoughts and put pen to paper.

I cannot describe this feeling.

It is just that moment of self-awareness where when I look at my own thought processes through my handwriting, I start thinking: -

“Geez, I never knew I think like that.”

That way, the journey of finding our North Star can begin.

It is the first step of clearing that fog of our lives and start moving in that direction we are destined for in our Life Path.
