Websites I regret using as a business owner
As an entrepreneur, your whole business journey is a learning experience. I’ve invested my time and money into a bunch of different business tools, resources, software, websites, and apps.
Here are 5 websites I regret using as a business owner.
5 websites I regret using as a business owner
1. Speedwrite
You use Speedwrite for article rewriting. I had a vision for how I’d use this tool for my business. My thinking was that I’d rewrite my blog content into new articles to rank for new keywords.
For example, take an article about making money blogging and turn it into 5 other similar articles with different keywords.
It hasn’t quite worked out that way.
Speedwrite is super easy to use but, it rewrites the text a paragraph at a time.
So, a long-form 3,000 to 4,000-word post with 200+ paragraphs would require cutting over 200 paragraphs and pasting 200 paragraphs then copying 200 new paragraphs into WordPress.
That’s 600 actions, for one blog post?
Even if you’re doing 50 paragraphs, that’s still 150 actions per post.
It’s monotonous and boring and I just couldn’t do it.
The more I tried, the less it made sense.
I regret using this tool for as long as I did. I invested about 8 months of payments into Speedwrite to give it a good effort. I think it may be useful for other businesses, depending on their need but, it just didn’t work for me.
2. Microsoft Word
This one is technically software but, I thought I’d include it in this list.
Word is great. The MS suite of tools is awesome, don’t get me wrong but, this is what would end up happening to me…
I would have Word on my computer then, upgrade my computer in a few years.
Re-buy Word or get a computer that came with it.
Rinse and repeat.
I have gone through probably 6 to 8 computers in the last 10 years, I bet.
I eventually transitioned to using Google Docs which works just as well. I’m probably being really dumb about this. If there’s an easier way to make this work, please educate me, down in the comments.
I feel like I tried to use the same MS Word installation on multiple computers but failed but, I can’t really remember.
Anyway, for the price of Word and the price alone, is why I feel like it wasn’t worth it.
3. Simily
I used Simily for about a month. My goal was to create a new income stream. It was not worth it. The time commitment didn’t make sense for the low payout.
I was hopeful because it was a new platform.
I know early adopters can be rewarded big when it comes to being the first to use a platform.
One of the bloggers I network with was one of the very first users on Pinterest.
Pinterest rewarded her by recommending her as someone to follow when new users would join the platform, growing her following to over one million followers on Pinterest, in the process!
Anyway, I tried Simily.
Didn’t work for me.
I had my first month free and didn’t cancel my membership in time so I was billed $6.99 once and that was my investment.
4. Sendowl
I used Sendowl for years. It’s a digital product platform that creators can use to sell their ebooks, e-templates, etc.
For example, a creator can write an ebook, upload it to Sendowl, and get a link to share with their audience. When buyers click the link to buy the ebook, Sendowl will collect the buyer’s payment, distribute the ebook to them and pay the creator.
I wish I had given Gumroad a try must sooner than I eventually did.
Sendowl gets the job done but, I’ve had much better results with Gumroad.
I like Gumroad’s sales page setup better. And, the options for payment.
All in all, I think it’s better than Sendowl. I spent years on Sendowl and I regret it.
5. Boardbooster
This one is no longer around. It was a competitor of Tailwind. You could set up auto-scheduling for your Pinterest pins.
I tried both Boardbooster and Tailwind for a time.
I liked Tailwind much better and Boardbooster just could not compete. I used both tools for months, if I remember right. I wish I would’ve cut the cord sooner with Boardbooster.
Wrap Up
There you go!
