My Thoughts on Simily — Immediately No

Photo by Nubelson Fernandes on Unsplash

Simily, Simily. I first heard about the platform from a story written on Medium. I used Kristina God’s code to join and got the first 30 days free.

I used that time to scope out the platform, look around, join groups, and write a story.

Here’s how my personal experience has been so far…

My Thoughts after 30 Days on Simily

Here’s a look at my stats…

I’ve only been on the platform for a hair over a month. I’ve written one story and amassed over 22 followers without much effort. I’m also in a handful of groups.

I can see that the platform caters to fiction stories which is not the kind of writing I do.

There are categories like horror, poetry, romance, etc.

I think you can get away with writing more than this but, honestly, you’ll get the most bang for your buck if you write the kind of content they want, in my opinion.

This was my experience with Newsbreak.

While Newsbreak welcomes different kinds of articles, they are a news site and that’s the kind of content they want, ultimately.

So if you write a news story, you can expect to get your content pushed. If not, low views. Just my two cents and I expect it to be the same with Simily.

I wanted to like Simily, but…

Honestly, there are just too many things I didn’t like:

  • Super low payout
  • Constant site crashes
  • Expensive unlimited plan

First, the payout is about half what I get on Newsbreak and Newsbreak has a really low payout.

So I ask myself if I’m willing to put in same amount of work I do when I write for Medium that pays me $3,XXX+ per month and Newsbreak which pays me $1,3XX+ per month, for this brand new platform.

The answer is no.

Next, constant site crashes. Not uncommon for a brand new site but nearly every time I login, I can’t.

The site is down.

It’s annoying and something else that pulls me away from Simily.

Then, $6.99/month for unlimited access to Simily? Come on.

Medium is $5/month and you get ALL of MMMEEEDDDDIIIUUUMMMMMM!

What I like about Simily

The site is easy to use.

There are groups which is a fun feature. It’s always cool to have some community so you can chat with other writers. I really love that.

I can navigate the site with no problem including getting a snapshot of my earnings MTD…

Simily

The navigation reminds of Medium’s a bit…

Simily

I’m not mad at it.

To be fair, I’ve only been on the platform for a short time and I’ve only written one story. I’ve seen other writers who have made their first $10 already.

I can see Simily possibly morphing into something similar to Medium several years down the road and over time it will only improve.

It’s a cool opportunity to join a platform from the start and get a chance to become a top writer like Tim Denning of Medium.

Right now sadly, it’s not worth my time.

I see so many writers excited about it but, for the kind of content I write, it’s not a fit for me.

The time I could have poured into Simily is best suited on other platforms like Medium or on my client work and projects.

Are you on Simily? What do you think about it?
